Bloody Samsung!

Don’t you just love it when your 3 year old ‘as was super dooper’ TV develops a backlight issue and the ‘fix’ costs more than a new TV!

Ironically the TV that this unit replaced (also a Samsung) was pulled out of the shed after having sat there for 3 years and works just fine, despite all the cold and damp it has endured.

Not sure I will touch a Samsung again if they make repairs economically unviable after such a short period of time.

LG all the way 👍
Am looking at a Toshiba qled unit which seems to get a good write up.
My lad wants a Hisense one but only because they sponsor the footy!
Tbh, as long as half the screen isn’t dark I’m ok - any 4k TV out does my 2k eyes!!

Bought Samsung about 10 years ago. At the time it was top model and just after warranty expired the screen goes south, they don't have screens as replacement part. Never anything Samsung since. It was replaced with Sony and later added two more. Sony is good but they have a bad habit of cutting off most of the useable apps after certain time so when the time for new TV comes it'll be LG my brother in law has few and swears by them

I replaced my TV last year. The previous one was a Panasonic something or other and it was fantastic but backlit LED lighting issue meant replacement. It was close to 15yrs old.

I replaced it with another Panasonic from John Lewis which is massive in comparison with obvious performance improvements given it is 15yrs newer. What surprised me was how cheap it was. It was actually the same price (give or take a tenner or so) than the previous one I bought back in the late noughties. The old one was 32inches I think and this one is massive (too big really). I suppose prices fall to the marginal cost of production. I recall my mum replacing the telly back in the late 80's when i was a child. I can vividly remember her paying just over £200 for a Sony Triniton 14inch box thing which was deeper than it was wide. It was the first time we had a telly with a remote control and teletext. Roll on 40yrs and you can get TV's for barely much more.

Anyhow, Panasonic TV's from John Lewis come with 5yr warranties. Not that I anticipate needing it if the last one is anything to go by.

I replaced the washing machine 2 weeks ago. That old Hotpoint also did 15yrs approx but I did repair that myself a couple of times but this time it was something i could not diagnose, let alone fix. My research suggested all things Samsung are crap. I got an AEG in the end. God its quiet. I genuinely thought it wasn't working. Only downside it has the most annoying beeping when the cycle finishes which seems to keep going until you turn it off.

Another plus for LG and Sony. That said my "big" tv in the lounge is a Samsung and it must be well over 10 years old...............

🤬 Shouldn't have said that should I :coat:
I think the older tv’s are much better.
My 16 yo Samsung which was relegated to the shed, but is now the replacement for the knackered one, seems to work just fine.

Will take a look at the LG units tho.

Won't touch sony as they basically disable a perfectly working tv by unsupportive the apps

Got a Hisense for fraction of the money works great

Tring. Whats wrong with back lighting? Sometimes its just diffusers need super gluing back on.

So it started dimming 40% of the screen in the left and then that switched to the right (left went back to normal) and now it’s gone back to the left but much darker, although it occasionally switches on, so it intermittent.

Just bought a new American style fridge, two days later and it won’t cool or freeze. Easy, under warranty of course…you would think! But that’s when the fun and games start with who is responsible, engineers needed to inspect fault, possible repairs within two weeks etc! OMG!!!

A very litigious formed email later from myself and seemingly a ‘replacement’ will be organised and the old replaced.

‘Marks Electrics’ - not sure going there agains..

Still running 15 year old Samsung TV the good lady talked about replacement a while ago but am I if it ain't broke kinda guy, I've an American style Samsung fridge freezer too and it has been excellent for a decade or so.
Touching wood as I type 😬

All my TV's and home appliances are from Currys with additional care plans purchased and can't fault their service,it just works as you would expect

Costco is worth a look if you need a new one. I bought a 75 inch LG from them last year. 4K HD all the bells and whistles. It was only £499 delivered, we were very impressed by their service.

Have only had very good experiences with Samsung, have 5 in the house non have ever given a problem only time I have replaced them was to upgrade to 4K rather than issue with the older one

Or just don’t replace it, first cost saving, then you won’t need a tv licence, second cost saving, quids in.

Also have the advantages of not having your tv spying on you and sparing you all the mind numbing rubbish that is broadcast.
