so a couple of weeks ago I found my fox trap under a tree, flat as a pancake 😩.
now in my past I've fixed some badly damaged cars and done a few " cut& shuts" but this is fubar!
after pricing a new one at nearly £200 I'll see what I've got lying about and make one.
here's the results.
material's!.
2 old dog cages.
wire from a collapsible bin for trigger.
bungge cord for tread plate return.
frame from a folding table.
old door mats for the floor.
cable ties.
2 springs from an old washer.
I'm really tight and don't like buying stuff I can make for free 😆.
il keep you posted if it works!!

Good stuff, far to many people just buy and not make..well done

Nice job Phil TF

Just my thoughts
A foot to long, the roof drop over / past the treadle could put them off they don’t like changes of height

The trap door is that strong enough for a pair of determined gnashers ? I would put a steel rim around to stiffen it up

Nice tidy job mate 👍 well done

hi.
couldn't do anything about the hight difference as that's all I had.i think the door will hold , it's pretty strong galv mesh and is held closed by the spring loaded frame.
I'll see what I've got to beef it up though.

Nice job let us know how it catches
Cheers

I made mine as I felt the ones available were too small. I’d love to know how many it’s trapped now. I had over 50 in an 18 month period when I first moved here!

Caught another this morning. That’s 3 now since early March. We have upped our hen numbers and the neighbours have put some small Hebridean type lambs out. So glad to see the back of another big dog fox.

hi.
is that a slide down door?.the reason I ask is my trap that got crushed had one and the wind caused it to go off so I opted for the flap closer.

Love how resourceful you have been there Phil. Your dead right about people dont bother making stuff anymore. I love watching the old ferreting videos on YT where the old boys still making their long nets/purse nets and ferret boxes. great to see. would love a day on the coneys with these legends of the day.
