The Milan complaint was filed by journalist and novelist Ezio Gavazzeni, who describes a "manhunt" by "very wealthy people" with a passion for weapons who "paid to be able to kill defenceless civilians" from Serb positions in the hills around Sarajevo.

Different rates were charged to kill men, women or children, according to some reports.

Don't think CIC offers a measuring service on that one...

Somehow the world alwasy seems to be able to dredge further in the depths of depravity...

I believe this did indeed happen. I've read it in several places, but just cannot fathom the barbaric mentality behind it. I hope someone, somewhere manages to investigate and bring those responsible to justice

I find it hard to believe myself.
I can't imagine they could have kept that under wraps, even when it was happening, many eyes were watching this conflict.

I remember the same reports coming out of Beirut during the Lebanese civil war . I served with a few troops that did some peace keeping duty in the area , Canadian Army , who confirmed it was going on . There are some sick POS out there . Personally , I'd cap them for it .

If this is a true story humans have sank back into the ooze they crawled from.

Then that makes you no better than them

OK . Keep in mind , I was in uniform at the time and was being paid to ,potentially , do just that . What would you have done with people who killed innocent people for fun , knowing that they were doing it with impunity because of their wealth and connections . Just like these ones in Bosnia have done ? These animals go to places like Lebanon , Bosnia and Central America because they are failed states . There is no rule of law there , no one is going to arrest them and no one is going to charge them . That's why they , and will continue to , get away with it . The people in Bosnia won't face any legal repercussions . Are you Ok with that ?

You are not in uniform now. Your post is in the present tense.
So in your view in an instance of someone actively killing innocent people, someone who intervenes and stops the murderer by killing is as bad as the murderer?

IMO a life being taken is no small thing and all lives are valuable, but stopping a murderer in action is doing so in defence of others and thus justifiable and not the same as killing in cold blood.

The courts are the place for dealing with them, being shot is the easy way out.

A relation (through marriage) of mine fought briefly in the Yugoslav war, he told me lots of tales of similar incredulous horrors, I take most with a pinch of salt but a lot of wrong went on there. The hatred still exists too and is bubbling away.

I'm rather sceptical that this sort of thing ever happened. It's just implausible at a practical level.
There's no earthly reason why the rich person turning up with large amounts of cash and asking to do this wouldn't just be robbed and murdered.

Many years after the conflict my wife did an Op tour in Sarajevo and candidly when I visited her I never felt comfortable walking the streets with groups of black-clad leather jacketed men roaming the streets. Away at the coast, which I revisited 5 years in a row, it was very different but in Sarajevo, you constantly felt the tension!

Ah, sorry . I'm not in uniform anymore , and I still think they should be capped for it . Does that clear things up for you ?

And capping them for it now would be in cold blood.
I think some of you are missing my point . The above mentioned murderers aren't going to face any court time , it's done and over with . That's the problem , if they don't get caught in the act and dealt with , they get away with it . As for cold blood , my grand father helped convict a lot of Nazis in 1946 , they were hung for their crimes . He and his men also stood by and watched former concentration camp inmates kill the guards and capos after they liberated the camps . Technically , he committed war crimes by allowing the latter . Life isn't neat and tidy sometimes . I think we have very different views on the world and how it works , I will respectfully leave it at that .

I don't know about Bosnia, although it was horrendous ,but it was confirmed to have happened in Beirut .

That's pretty much how the drug trade works , there's the occasional bit of murder , but that's bad for business . You want a stream of customers for a profit stream . Killing your customers isn't profitable .
