With regret as it not economical for me to fix it how I would like is my ultra XS with grade 3 wood.

Everything works as it should and the stock is free from dinks and splits. However the other week the top choke let go and bulged the top barrel 3" total back from the muzzle with the choke last seen heading out over Risley.

So the only option is to either cut it down to about 27" and have it as cylinder cylinder or cut it down and get it teuged for chokes. Economically this isnt worth me doing much as I love the gun.

However the wood and fore end would fit a browning 525 or equivelent and is a cracking bit of timber in very good condition having been profesionally refinished last year so I am putting it up for sale as either the full gun minus the barrels as these are now out of proof (SGC required can RFD if needed) or alternatively I can sell the wood if someone wants it and then scrap the barrels and action.

Length of pull is 15" with a kickease pad on the back.

£500 either way for the full wood or the whole gun.

Just curious.

What is the barrel difference between an XS and a 525?

Is it definitely beyond economical replacement?

Checking with my gunsmith he was of the opinion 60% of the time a set of 525 barrels would fit straight off but the other 40% of the time a bit of work may be needed to get the fit right. I woud think someone much more knowlegable that me would be able to anwser with more authority.
As far as the barrels go they could be cut down by a smith to cylinder cylinder that would make them approx 27" but then would need reproofing. If you wanted a choke in them then it would be a job for teauge and about £400 I do have a set of teauge thin walled chokes for it as it had been teauged orgionally.

Really when I looked into it I didnt want a 27" gun with cylinder cylinder and getting a set of barrels could take ages as you are relying on an action write off.

Cheers for the offer unfortunately I made a rash visit to my local RFD yesterday and walked out with a grade 3 MK38 20 bore so funds are now a bit limited :(

More pics as requested in the daylight

If barrels are shortened they do not need a re-proof. They ONLY need a re-proof is something is done that removes metal that is considered to materially weaken them. Cutting off a length and then throwing it away and re-crowning the muzzle on the now shortened barrels is not that. They can be cut down and re-crowned without re-proof.
