BTHP 223 ammo

At the present I use Federal 55gr BTHP varmint ammo for foxing. They are no longer made and 1 box left.
Last week I got a box of GGG , 77gr BTHP ammo. Extreme good accuracy and very affordable. ( 1/4 Moa, 3 shots at 100m)
I don't reload.
Would these bullets be of the same construction and be useable for varmints?
Or is there a diffrence in construction between these 224 BTHP bullets by Sierra?

There are no 77gr BTHP expanding in GGG .223. These are Sierra MatchKings.

Just understand that the Sierra 77gr bullet was not made to expand, but rather tumble or break apart (in two pieces) when impacting soft tissue.

It's the same bullet used in Mk262 ammo, for short barreled M-4's that typically don't generate enough velocity to allow expansion at longer ranges.

It should still kill fox deader than dead. I just wouldn't use that bullet if it was anything I intended to eat.

I'm assuming you have a fast enough twist in your barrel to stabilize them (1-8 is the recommended minimum IIRC).

On occasion shooting a hare for the pot i have used Sierra Matchking 69gn HPBT where i wanted a bit less damage than a 55gn Blitzking.
Worked OK on a fox too..

People tend to say that PPU .223 Match ammunition is quite good for the price.

I shoot 75 HPBTs i load myself from them and they are very accurate out to 5 - 600 yards. You can pick em up factory loaded.

I cant speak for their terminal effects, but i think they will be more than enough to take out a fox. Their construction compared to sierra would be almost identical at approx 60% of the price. My local club RFD sells them for ~ 17.60 per box
