Budget thermal spotter and brands to avoid

Looking for a budget thermal spotter to go out to 200-250 yards, miss mealie jimmy for this info, also which brands to avoid re after sales support.

I picked up a Pixfra Mile 215 when they first came out. Fairly cheap, 9 hour battery, about the size of red bull can, picks up stuff well beyond advertised range, simple to use. To 150 yards easily identify most animals, I can pretty much tell what most blobs are at 200+ yards. 200 yards Small blob- rabbit (or cow pat)
Medium still blob hare, slow medium blob badger, longer taller medium blob fox. Rubbish for trying to see squirrels in trees. Probably could’ve better spent my 500 odd quid on a second hand Pulsar , but for the money it’s been pretty good considering it’s used and abused a fair bit and it’s just expected to be a spotter and has 3 year warranty. First one did break within first 12 months, sensor fault, but replaced like for like on warranty fairly quickly.

Should have said mainly for fox at night at a maximum of 200 yards, budget is what the Mrs says I can use (<£1000), need to know which brands to steer clear of regards to after sales support.

Hello, Have a look at the ATN Blaze Hunter,335 or 635, my friend said his 635 was brillliant, good warranty, you should get a discount if you contact and mention the SD forum

The hik micro LH19 that I have is pretty decent and around that price point . They were going for a out £700 at the stalking show

Thermal images with lower res are sometimes more about if or how the heat source moves......even higher res images it may not be obvious until it moves

I recall a couple of pheasants together doing a good impression of a deer

As with all things SD folk often are able to recommend the item they have/use/sell :)

Absolutely this. I have an lh19 as well and can see rabbit size heat sources at about 400 yards. Movement then gives you an idea of what you are looking at. You also get to know your ground and what to expect where. I would like a higher end thermal but I definitely don’t need one to make me more successful, that is down to my skill or lack of it.

I’ve got a Lynx LH25 2.0 which cost me under £1k. I’d say it’d be ideal for your needs. Have got video with it of a Barn Owl hunting a field at about 100 yards & can see the mouse in its talons when it takes off so plenty of detail! Can’t make any comparison with other makes or models but all I’d say is that I’d buy it again.

You could do a lot worse than a 2nd hand Pulsar XM30 for about £500. Nicer quality than the Chinese stuff IMO. I can spot roe out to 500m with mine. You don't need to spend a fortune on one.
If that’s an axiom key, that’s what I bought and it’s totally fine for checking out if there are deer about to stick their heads out, or if they are in front of you in the dark. Saw one on here for about £400 which I think is what I paid for mine.
If the one you recommend is a model newer, it’ll be great I’m sure.

That's the one - does what I need at an affordable price and will last me years.
