Building a custom Blaser R8…

Is it possible to build/assemble a new R8 without buying a donor rifle in the UK?

I’m contemplating a 6mm creedmoor build for stalking and foxing. I have a PRS type 6mm creed and rate the cal, cartridge and effectiveness highly. It’s not the easiest thing to carry or stalk with though, especially with a 26” barrel.

A R8 type build would save approx 3” if I recall correctly, making a long barrel a bit easier to handle.

I think I’ve seen aftermarket R8 carbon stocks and bottom metals for sale in the U.K. and proof research make R8 barrels. I can’t work out if the proof barrels are a drop in fit or need a Blaser “stub” though. An email to proof didn’t help.

A donor rifle my new the easier option, but I’m curious if it can be done…

A single shot break barrel 6 creed is appealing, but may be a separate thread

Legalities aside, yes it is.

Akila ACSR8 MkII chassis with a custom made 6mm Creedmoor barrel by Michael Rainback. It also wears a 6.5PRC and a 300 Norma Mag barrel as required.

Proof Research barrels need the Blaser tenon added so are not drop in and Proof do not appear to be interested in shipping barrels from the USA unless it’s in large volumes.

Yes. Stocks, metalwork, trigger, bolt housings are all available. Then just buy the barrel of choice, new, or used, and the appropriate bolt face.

I’d suggest speaking to your FEO, regarding what they’d want you to have as a variation, because since the changes to how component parts are described, some FLD’s require a variation, and if the part has a serial number, it listed on the FAC.

Some older parts, the metalwork for example, only had the number added more recently, they treat it like a moderator, serial no. N/A

I know its off topic - Is installing a R8 reciever into a Akila stock a straight forward operation?

Many thanks

If you are after a barrel stub, have a word with Tim (Mr McAvoy) at McAvoy Guns in Standish.
I PX'd an R8 in .20 Tac a couple of years ago. The Barrel was not part of the deal (as decidedly a non-standard calibre), but you could re-use the breech end for your project and save a little time. The whole thing - including adjustable stock - is still for sale if that helps.
