I'm thinking of buying a new scope for my new rifle but there's so many to choose from my brain is in melt down I want a 30mm tube, illuminated ret and dialable with quality glass but my price range is about £600 any info would be appreciated. I've been looking at the Vortex pst but I don't like the reticules and also the Delta Titanium 2.5-15×56 HD Illuminated 4a SF Riflescope which I like but I'm unsure of it as I've never heard of anyone using these or if there any good on a 308.

thanks in advance

Hi Chris.. I've a Delta Titanium 2.5-15×56 HD on my 22-250.. It's a cracking bit of kit, especially for the price. Glass is spot on, up there with scopes a lot more expensive. Ok, it's not a Zeiss HT, I've one of them on my 308. But like I said, they are at least three times the price.. It's a bit heavy and when wound right up, eye relief isn't the best.. For the money you're wanting to spend, I think you would be very happy. I know I am. It is a replacement for a Zeiss Duralyt and I've no regrets.. Or you could always get a second hand Duralyt and have a great scope and save some cash. Have a look on Youtube for a review on the Delta, thats what clinched it for me.. Hope this helps.

thank you for the info on the delta I've been looking on you tube and I was impressed with it but as you can imagine theirs so many on the market I find it hard to decide which one is for me, the Zeiss would be lovely to have I must admit . I was also looking at the Viper HD but one its out of my price range and two it weighs in at 3lb in weight which is ridiculous, I guess i'll keep looking for now.

cheers

Leupold VXR, very good glass, decent choice of reticules and unlimited lifetime warranty. I have one of these, and to be honest it is really very good. It makes you wonder why we spend so much on high end scopes. I have a 12x50 VXR and a 12x50 S&B Zenith, the Zenith is better at last light but only just, we are talking a few minutes extra at most. and it was 3 times the price.
These guys ship to the UK, i have bought from them in the past, convert to £ and add 20% for an idea of cost..

Have noticed that everyone seems to want a 30mm tube on their scopes now and am wondering why this is?

What is the advantage of a 30mm tube?

To throw something else into the mix, have you thought to look at the Hawke Endurance range? I have the 8 x 56 on my .270 and swear by it. It's under half the price of the Delta scopes, too. Worth a look, at least?

more room for dialing which is what I want because I want to shoot out to 1000 yrds+

I have plenty enough adjustment to shoot to 1500 yards with a 260 rem. With an inch tubed vortex 4-16.
So unless you are trying to lob 208amax from a 300blk, most people wont need more than 40moa available adjustment

What is it you dont like about the vortex ?

More adjustment range (if you need it, that is...)

which most people simply do not....

Really?
That can only due to the Vortex having a much higher elevation range than most 1" tubes and even then its got to be marginal or you are using the reticule stadia to holdover

1500 yds with a 140gr 6.5mm doing 2850 is 60 MOA elevation (give or take,)
assuming you have the vortex with 75MOA elevation range and it is roughly centered (38MOA up and 37MOA down) you would STILL need a rail to give you the elevation

With a 1" Zeiss Conquest on a 300wm shooting 208gr at 2700 (same curve as above) I ran out of elevation at under 900 yds (24 MOA, Conquest range is 40MOA but that is the FULL range not the elevation from zero)

The normal range of a 1" tube is 40-50MOA
effective range from rough centre is about half of that

Another happy owner of a Delta Titanium HD 2.5-15 x 56. Cracking scope with amazing glass at the price. Best field of view I've seen at 15 times mag on any scope and good eye relief too. I simply couldn't find anything to better it either new or used and I did look at a fair few scopes. Holds zero well on my .308 and enough adjustment for 700 yds (not that I shoot that distance). Good turrets with positive adjustments too.

Do ALL 30mm tubed scopes have more adjustment? Am wondering if some might be just jumpin on the latest must have band wagon.

That depends on the design and implementation of the elevation turrets, but the easy way to compare them is look at the specs for the elevation moa travel compared with their 25mm stablemates. A lot of LR shooters are now switching to larger 34mm tubes for even more adjustment. I have almost enough on my Nightforce (30mm) tube to reach out 900 to 1000 yds without the need for 10 or 20 moa rails. For stalking, there's no real advantage that I can see though.
