Buying shot shells with deer lethal pellets

What deer are you shooting? Roe deer,#1s-#3s 20 mtr max range. Forget about head, neck shots, chest shots only. SG'and SSG's are only any good when up close and very personal beyond 15mtrs they are rubbish. For deer bigger than roe and boar, rifle slugs. As said in a post #11 Sellier & Bellot 1oz slugs work well. Best to try the slugs in your shotgun before the hunt and see how they shoot so you have some idea where they are going

sg which have 9 pellets will do the job if you can hit the target, myself i think i can remember shooting 2 barrels at a fallow deer 60 yds and one pellet hit it in the neck killing it stone dead i would never use shot for anything larger than foxs and then only AAA

Thousands of roe are killed in Scandinavia every year with a shotgun and #1-#3 shot are nearly always used. A shot to the chest at sub 20 mtrs will drop the roe on the spot. If you are likely to have boar in the drive then I would stick to slugs. S&B slugs are nice to shoot. Some of the slugs on the market will make you sit up and take notice when you fire them. Wwhen I had my slug gun I bought some Remington Buck Hammer slugs. You needed your teeth glued in well when you fired those.

Many years ago we did a experiment with SG's Orr SSG*s , cant remember what now. On a paper target of a roe you had to be a max 15 mtrs from the target to get a reasonable amount of pellets on target. 20 mtrs or more and they were hopeless.

i seem to recall shooting with the SG or LSG the one with 9 balls at a 50 gal oil drum at 60yds as an experiment the best we got was 2 pellets hitting top and bottom of the drum some missed completely i agree 15-20 yds max
