Can anyone identify this plant?

Can anyone help identify this plant, it was outside a restaurant I visited in summer, also - if anyone can identify it - does anyone know if it dies off in winter or is evergreen?
I have one three times the size in my front garden, i love the flowers it produces, had a smaller one 20 ft away and removed it roots an all but it comes back on a regular basis, its a haven for snails and slugs big time, be interested to find out the proper name

Philip,

Thanks - Are they fast growing?

regards,
Gixer

I have one too - used to have 4. The others required a chain saw - phormium it is but one of the larger ones - very like cordyline but multi stemmed at the base - originally (I think) from New Zealand.
