Can anyone tell me what this could be

Back in the early 90s when I was doing a lot of wreck diving I went on a trip to dive the German High Seas Fleet in Scapa Flow, a guy on the rig I was working on at the time realised I took a great interest in this and he gave me this object which he assured me had been lifted from one of the German wrecks in the flow.
Over the years I have asked a few people what it could be but nobody has a definitive answer, so I turn to the know it alls educated might of SD to see if anyone can shed some light on it.

The tommy bar is free to slide through the boss and as you can see there is a threaded blind hole up the centre.

Is it the shutter bolt for a porthole.
I thought that but the one's I tried in vain to liberate from various wrecks were all drilled completely through with a ring for a handle.

My best guess is that it was off the top of a steam pressure regulator.

Some sort of bleed nipple for a steam system?

Dunno but I reckon there are at least 50,000 of them

So it was you that got there first? Always made me smile the integrated diving weight system, hammer and chisel.

The length of the tommy bar to the diameter of thread does not indicate a pressure holding device.

It appears that it didn't need to be done up very tight. Although the tommy bar is very thick it is not long enough to make use of its strength.

The tommy bar indicates it was frequently tightened and loosened...

Maybe something like an clamp on something that swivels like a lamp quadrant? Or as posted above, some hatch or lid in the same way as the porthole screws.

Not my find I'm afraid, but my weight belt was indeed supplemented by lump hammer & chisel. It made getting to the bottom easier. 👎

Plan the dive and dive the plan, once underwater usually adapted to, "Change the plan and dive the dive".
Evidence suggests otherwise. 🤣

Years ago , we were meant to dive the Thistlegorm . It was cancelled as the BSAC divers had got there first .

Only kidding...or am I ?

Haha, true enough.

I did the Thistlegorm, I reckon Cousteau and his crew stripped that when they found it.
Racks of motorbikes all with the petrol caps and tank badges missing.
