Has anyone thought of using carbon fibre for scope rings, ive a Browning x bolt with strange 25mm scope fittings, i cant find an image on the "Net" im looking to change the scope to 34mm and was touing woth the idea of 3D printing a set of mounts .. not sure if its a viable option... any views on this ?

interesting idea, quite a few engineering grade filaments available with carbon fibre or glass fibre.

If you have a printer that will work with them, may be why not try it and lets us know how it works out.

You have to wonder though, if its practical, why no-one else has brought it to market yet :-| Who knows, this maybe the next "safety pin"............

I believe CF rings exist already:

I don't know how 3D printing would work for the durability though?

Maybe no body has yet connected the two, they will need a full CAD file first which I assume means copying/scanning a current machined ring set, you could then add a pic rail to the forward one as an add on to make it more attractive.

Nasty-looking though 🤢

My eyes are still stinging after viewing that mount.

Wellcome to the future
those look pretty easy to make, as ever the trick is setting the inserts up before filling th mould.

I wonder if thetas why a well known ring and mount manifacuer sold a majority holding in his company ?

it will be the future the way technology moves on, a PEEK Carbon fibre filament is already available but expensive and need much higher temperatures to print with then home machines offer at this time, but is claimed to be as strong as aluminium and a lot lighter.

Printing a rifle stock at home of your choice, now that would be good.
