Carbon Ring

What are the thoughts of carbon Ring at the start of the barrel?
Borescope my 6.5 and definitely have one.
Watched lots of videos that show how to remove and how bad they are etc.

Can they really increase pressures? If so would this manifest on the case? Primer blowing etc.

What recommendations for removing the ring as I am certainly not using a cordless drill and drill bit as one video shows

Of course it can increase pressure. Ultimately the carbon ring will crimp the bullet into the case. It's an obstruction in the chamber and it has to go.

I simply use an oversized bronze brush on a short rod with a non rotating handle to clean this area every time I clean the barrel. As I clean my barrels after most every use there no chance such a build-up.
Carbon rings are the best example for the most neglected part on rifles - the chamber.

Cheers Steff, that is what I find strange, I do clean after every shoot and I still have a ring. I read that it forms in the space just in front of the case so as I have never trimmed my cases would have thought that a fire formed case would have been an even better fit.

I must not be running the brush over this area long enough.

I was planning on using a larger brush and some bore scrubber then Bisley oil etc.

Carbon ring in the throat area always causes inconsistency of accuracy and pressure spikes

It is very common to see in overbore cartridges such as magnums

They form a glass like ring which is tough to remove and to be brutally honest preventable with a proper cleaning regime

To remove I would NOT recommend using a drill and some kind of attachment to do so, you run a very high risk of damaging the throat and lands / rifling

Personally I use stabdard good quality bore cleaning chemicals and a nylon brush and bore guide

Gentle agitation action in the affected area will remove the issue - there isn’t a quick fix to this

Boretech carbon and copper solutions (separate) works for me

There are other brands for sure but these always work

If you have a stubborn area then Losso paste on a brush can be used but only sparingly

Use carbon cleaner - agitate with affected area with nylon brush and use bore guide

Time and perseverance will remove

@Ronin knows how I got rid of mine. But my barrel is near the end of its life 🤣. I am also inpatient. I borescoped it after and there was no visual damage. (Yes I used the bronze brush and a drill method).

I can confirm that the carbon ring manifests with pressure spikes and inconsistent velocities. I couldn’t understand why I was missing the gong at 700m over the top after being on for 5 shots. The Garmin chronograph showed 50-70fps increase in velocity which explained the elevation issue.
