I'd suggest going green as they'll be easier to see if dropped...black ones would go bye bye at night for sure, orange should be findable but green would stand out like balls of a brontosaurus

Yes there is. Have a look at some of the earlier threads, there a number of papers regarding the effectiveness of both types with gunshot noise, I have posted links to them in the past.

But the instantly available comparison is the SNR figures quoted for them. Foam plugs which go deep in the ear canal like the EEPs/LEPs consistently have higher attenuation ratings than over ear muffs or the shallower fitted CENS type models.

Having said that the 26dB SNR of the CENS fitted models and the 25dB SNR of the Sordin Supreme-Pro X and 26dB SNR of the 3M Peltor Sportac over ear muffs are okay. You will know whether they are comfortable enough for your shooting. Apart from the exceptional circumstance of being in the next lane from some wazzock with a muzzle brake where any single layer PPE suffers whatever the rating. I double up the protection with over ear muffs as well as the LEPs then, still doesn't stop the physical buffet, but makes it less painful!

The Minos foam tips are tidier in appearance than the foam ones by 3M, @fizzbangwhallop uses them with his EEPs I think.

I do…..wore them for clays yesterday and I’m still on the same pair of tips so that means the tips have done have done a good 18months without deterioration. (Don’t quote me on that….can’t actually remember how long I’ve had them with all the upheaval of Covid….could be longer )

OK they don’t get worn week in week out outside the shooting season but they haven’t degraded being sat in the case unlike some plug materials. Easy to clean too.

I use CENS Mino tips with my EEPs and they normally get used a couple of times a week, each use is 3+ hours. I haven't had to replace them yet and they are well over a year old.
I found the CENS Mino tips gave a far more comfortable, snug and secure fit than the supplied tips.
