Cerakote grey colours - opinions please

I'm not too fond of having to mollycoddle my blued Sako 75 A1. When I get it rebarreled to 6x45 I'm going to get all the metal cerakoted. The stock is currently being cerakoted OD Green.

I think that I've decided on Sniper Grey. However there are also colours like Tactical Grey and Tungsten but think they may be too shiny. Is Sniper Grey too flat? Do the colours vary depending on how the metal is blasted. I don't want something too flashy for when I'm sneaking around dim forests like a ninja...

Any opinions are welcomed or please post pictures of your cerakoted rifles.

Thanks

Have a look at Gunmetal Grey. That is the colour that I chose when my Sako 75 was re-barrelled. It is not at all flashy and goes very well with the Sako original factory stock (blue/grey colour). It looks good.

After some researching, I find that all the XPR rifles come with a Poly-Cote finish, which is a synthetic varnish that etches and oxidizes the surface of metal, then bonds to it, to prevent further oxidation. This finish has been offered on some shotguns for a few years now, and seems to be very durable, and completely impervious to even salt water.

The closest thing to it that I have found so far, is the Polycoat finish on some CZ handguns. That polymer coating has a PTFE (Teflon ) component, and is applied as a powder coating, then baked on.

Thanks, Southern. My friend's Rem 700 has the action teflon coated and seems good. The riflesmith that's doing my rifle offers cerakote so will go with that. It seems to get good reports.

I don't think that too many folks get their rifles recoated here in the UK.

My first choice would be Stainless for a rifle as I like simplicity and that would avoid the expense of coating. There weren't many stainless .222's (or .223's etc) around when I bought my rifle.

Cerakote is good. I have done it on an AK-47. Howa 1500 barreled actions are offered in stainless steel with Cerakote grey.

with regard to 'shine' - the Cerakoter should be able to adjust the mix (I think it's the amount of hardener, but don't quote me) to get any colour as matt as you want it. Remember Cerakote can be mixed - so if you pick an accent off something, they can usually match it. My last was a mix of Barrett bronze and FDE for example, giving a very slight metallic look.

My last grey was sniper grey - and it works very well. I'm considering tungsten next, but from what you're saying that's too pale.
It's really hard to decide from internet pictures! I don't wan't shiny silver or black, just something inbetween that looks good and is not too flat and boring a colour.

Pick one slightly lighter than the surroundings where you tend to stalk and you'll not be far wrong. Next time you're out, let your eyes focus out ever so slightly, you'll probably find there's more light than dark colours about, unless you're in wtw sitka, and check out lighter coloured livestock against their surroundings as compared to darker ones, they stand out like rat s*%t in a sugar bowl imo, most camo and stalking gear sold seems to be very dark compared with dead grass or summer green grass, but you might of course only be sitting at the edge of a dark wood rather than actually stalking, so I could well be not helping!
