Changing Rifle Barrels

As all the info, serial number etc is on the chamber part of a Blaser rifle, is it possible to get a new barrel fitted to it.
I have a 30-06 with a medium weight fluted barrel but am finding it a bit of a trudge to drag around now so was hoping that instead of selling the rifle and buying another with a lighter barrel, that I might find a smith to just chop, or whatever they can do, to just fit a lighter barrel and keep all the same detail.
Is such a thing possible. ?

Pretty sure that’s a big fat no. New barrel means new chamber.
What Blaser model is it? A lot have readily switchable barrels, but as far as I’m aware you’ll need a new slot

@EMcC yes, there are a few people that can do this in the UK - Barton & Michael Rainback are two that I've heard of.

what you describe can be done, and you wont need a variation if calibre is the same. It will need to be proofed, so unless the rifle builder has a spare stock and bolt your whole rifle will be away for a few weeks.
