Chasing uniform case length

Hello

I have about 600 .223 cases which I’m slowly getting through for reloading.

Now so far I have been trying to keep to the maximum case length when trimming 1.750.

However when sorting thought fired brass (after resizing etc) some come out at 1.747, 1.745 etc. Do you just say “yeah that’s good” as it’s less than max length OR do you try and batch stuff up. Obviously anything over 1.750 I trim back to max case length.

It’s for a straight pull .223 so I’m not really chasing absolute exacts when it comes to reloading.

I’m guessing it will have a very small impact on pressure due to a different seating depth too.

Thanks

Shoot it as is, in fact you can measure the chamber dimensions to find out just what the max trim length is by cutting a case neck in two, seating it around a bullet with the cut ring extended and then chamber.

That’s to do with cbto isn’t it and not actual case length in this situation? I could be wrong but I wasn’t aware that’s how you measure how long a case can be ( only overall length by using an OAL gauge)

No you can easily measure case length max depth. However I generally stick to published max and only trim when they start exceeding this.

I use a Giraud tri way trimmer and just pop every case on it while watching telly. I can do 100 in well under an hour.
reason I do it is I full length size and some stretch and make it tight to fit into chamber, which when shooting a comp is a pain.
Yes I do crimp and I am using a straight pull 223/556. I also have a dummy chamber to check fit

I do not bother with that much faff when sorting a few rounds for stalking.
