So driving into the estate yesterday at 6pm to do a bit of dogging in and catching up with owner we notice a lot of birds flying across the old rearing field. They are well used to the deer so knew something must be amiss. Pull up on the track and the lad spots a white spot in the cover crop, which is almost 500 yds away! Rifle out the window and first thing I see is the usual munty buck who resides in the area. Scan left 6 feet and there she is, a vixen! ****, out the car and I’m off running down the edge of the old rearing sheds with the wind favourable I hope to close the gap. I get to the end of the shed, which would leave a150 ish yds to where the fox was sat when we spotted it. It’s now moved a further 20 yds and surrounded by pheasants! Let my heart settle as I’m not as fit as I once was. Up on the sticks and there she is, front on making a move towards the closest pheasant that is pecking the grass on the edge of the cover strip. Full mag, dot in the middle of the chest and bang. Very pleased as the foxes have been elusive but spotted on the camera. Healthy looking and another off the estate, 3 in 2 outings. Estate owner pleased as they are his pet hate, along with the hordes of squirrels!
