Chronograph

Looked at the mangnetospeed but it won't work with the mod on, if I got it right

The V3 does. It has little rubber grommit things to help align the unit to the various dimensions of different barrels/mods etc.

It is much more expensive than the standard sporter version (which I think does not accommodate mods from memory) and not reasonably so either. It is however a very good unit which function faultlessly and is impossible to get wrong unless you don't pay attention and read the instructions properly.

The optical chronographs all suffer to some extent from the effect of variation in light quality. This can affect accuracy of results. I understand that the accuracy of the Caldwell is the best of the bunch other than the Oehler but it may be worth looking at the Magnetospeed (the sporter version is quite keenly priced). The Labradar is fab but expensive
I cured that problem with a couple of strips of 12v LED’s first on a board that sat on top of the rods on the Chrony (I lost the sun screens that came with it).
It was very effective but not easy store. I have replaced it with to lengths of nylon pipe with the LED’s attached.
The direct light over the sensors has stopped the previous problems of intermittent failure to read speed etc.
I set up very carefully so the chronograph is level and the rifle is on bags or bipod and bag. It gives me consistent results with existing loads which I tend to check each time.
