CITES, experiences?

Folks , what’s your experiences on cites in general as far as:

Ease of getting a permit granted?

How much hassle do they cause at UK import/heathrow?

I’m away for a first plains game in May and IF the week is going well, I may add a lechwe on near the end. Assuming the PH has the permits/tags.

Is it risky from a trophy fee and an import permit perspective to apply for the import permit after the hunt? My understanding is import permits last 100 days? Dip and pack takes around 3-4 months anyway?

I’ve heard folk say they’re straightforward and also heard that they’re a nightmare. Someone I know of second hand had stuff held up at the airport due to a baboon costing quite a bit of money and they regretted the whole thing.

Any input would be appreciated. As I say, if it’s something I have to organise well ahead of the hunt then it’s unlikely to go ahead but if it’s straightforward and can be done after the hunt then it may be an option.

Cheers!

Years ago we brought in some CITIES items from Canada for use with museum display.
We too had this consideration...in the end, we decided to post everything than bring it in via the hold. As long as the paperwork was in all place, they traveled without a problem.

I don't know how things are placed nowadays.

Long time ago now. I had a baboon skull sent home with other stuff, all the paperwork etc. was done by by the taxidermy company without a hitch.

Thanks folks! Appreciate the help. Thought there may have been a few more experiences but it’s either not common or folk keep it on the down low. Cheers!
