Commonwealth Games in Scotland (Not in Australia)!

Not sure how they pulled it off but fair play to them, what was nice to see was Sir Chris Hoy (bless him) front and centre welcoming the King through the doors of the Tardis which reminded me of the quirky parts of the 2012 Olympics.

Let the games begin (well carry on)

Victoria could not envision hosting the games for less than A$6 billion – yet Glasgow is budgeted to deliver the games at about 5% of this cost: £150 million (A$290 million).

Astonishingly, there is to be no United Kingdom or Scottish to the event’s delivery.

Meanwhile, Victoria spent $589 million of taxpayer funds in sunk costs and legal compensation, including about $194 million to Glasgow organisers.

The event’s cancellation has been followed by a string of shifts in the Australian sport landscape that poses what was once an unimaginable question: is Victoria, and Melbourne specifically, losing its “sporting capital of Australia” status?

Those of us that live near Glasgow would be much happier if they'd spent a similar amount of money on finishing the never-ending road works, clearing the detritus off the streets and actually putting a bit of pride back in the City......
