Cost of rebarrelling .22 k-hornet

I decided to go back and try 35g vmax since im not getting on great with the 45g sierra hornet. I did plenty of load development when I first got the rifle and ended on 12.6g of lilgun but I didnt go as high as 13g so I decided to try 5 shots with 12.6g and 5 shots with 13g.
OAL of 1.735
PPU brass, cleaned and trimmed and neck sized
CCI small rifle primers
100 yard zero
12.6g 1.2"
13g 2.5"

Any advice to tighten the group up will much appreciated.

Can only be down to seating depth surely :-| , 12.9 Lil'gun and 35Vmax are giving me cloverleaf at 100, from a circa 1987 Annie.

My suggestions:

a. Stick with the 35g V-Max
b. Stick with Lill-Gun.
c. Stick with small pistol primers.
d. Stick with crimping c/o a Lee FCD.
e. Stick with shooting critters at 100 yards with your final ‘pet load’.
f. Stick with a recognised legend in projectionless scope rings & mounts.
g. Stick with The Stalking Directory.

What OAL are you using?
Oal = 1.7465. Base to ogive = 1.5050. It may be that you need to use a Hornady Oal gauge to determine some starting point, it worked for me pretty quickly when I started to home load a year or so ago. Plenty of folks on here know a lot of good info about loading for the Hornet, just ask ;)

Thanks. I measured it when i first stated to load for the hornet. I will try a slightly longer OAL and see how I get on. Thanks for the info.

It might be a stock issue. Are you shooting off a bipod or bags ? Be worth trying bags if you using a bipod - the forends can be quite flexy on some of the older Cz527’s with the hogsback European stock. That right hand group is a narrow group but with vertical stringing. Has your rifle got the hogs back European stock. Some of the models before the American didn’t have free floating barrels and often had a pressure point on the tip of the forend, which doesn’t go well for accuracy with bipods. Check your stock screws properly tightened and the steel sleeve still present on the one.

Yes I was using a bipod. Interesting, I will try off a bag. All the screws are fine, I had the stock off last night so know they are correct.

Or bin it (better yet, sell on SD Klassifieds) in favour of a 1-8" .223

Life is too short to compromise

Hornet isn’t a compromise in my eyes, it sits nicely between rimmies and .222 / .223 family CFs.

A good medium range bunny basher that will also drop foxes with no issues out to 150/160. They are also usually in scaled down action and light barrels so a nice light carry rifle

My god you were spot on. Shot off a bag at 100 yards and did a 0.7” 5 shot group. I think that will work.

So you just need to zero it now?😁

Glad it came good for you - as the FEO said to his Typist! Nothing worse that a grumpy 22 Hornet owner unless they also have a Prize 🏆 Drawer “looser” complex!
