council scam, parking zone permits

So the council introduced parking zones, have to pay for a permit, cost increases every year and by paying it does not even guarantee you a parking space. Then any visitors, friends, family, trade etc to park, you need to pay for a voucher for each visit so they can park. Plus limited to only 100 vouchers a year.

Is it just me or is it one big scam by the council?

Sadly, it's just another way of reaming us for every penny they can screw us for, all to fund their big fat pensions and corporate jollies!!🤔

They councils are so skint they'll do anything to grab cash though I'm sure half the time due to incompetence they cost more to administer than they raise.
My local town are going to take certain responsibilities from the county council because the council tax precept has no raise limit unlike council tax, so the town council take things off the county council and you have to pay more council tax legalised robbery.

I don't like it when people say councils / the government are skint. They're absolutely awash with money. Your local council has reserves of well over a billion pounds to serve a population under half a million.

Exactly I'm only going on what they tell us.
They probably need that for their expenses and Christmas party.

London and its surroundings is the epicentre of the capitalist model no surprise really when councils and government are demanding more money for the privileged of parking and living in the utopia of London. let’s face it the country is bankrupt (allegedly) your labour government is on the side of hard working families 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Hi

Its called 'milking' :(....

In Oxford several major roads are about to be put under a charge of 5£ per day if you use them...........the alternative is to sit in the long lines of traffic, becuase all the 'alleged' rat-running traffic (no evidence provided of reduction, or the impact on the people living on the main roads) was adding more pollution to the residentail side roads.........nothing to do with accidents in the residential areas.

The same as if you limit only 2 car parking spaces for a 5bed or more new dwelling the residents will more likely use public transport walk or cycle? In a village of the main routes?
Oh, and new dwellings must have 2 cycle parking spaces per bedroom - go figure, including where to put these given the postage stamp sized plots..
...and the cycle parking is to be near the main entrance so 'cycling' is not a tertiary means of transport........

its a complete scam, it will be resident only during the day, then when you get home and want to park anybody can park for free outside your house.
the entire consept is just another reason towns and cities are failing

Sadly it is the way things are heading, normally driven by nimbies.
I live by a college on the edge of town, during term / lecture time parking was a bit of a pain but manageable.
Now if we want to park on the road weekdays, we have to pay for the privilege.
Issue is if there is nowhere on our "zone" to park, we cannot dump the car on the next street up as its a different zone!

Does this apply to parking on the road or in your drive?

Just on the road where I live, but could be a pain in the future! I'm in a 3 / 4 bed semi. As a existing resident, with one off road parking space on the drive , we can apply for 2 permits. (Reduced to one on change of ownership of property)
I have a work van, wife has a work car as has to meet age and emissions standards, and a family car for us, 3 kids and a large dog.

Eldest is nearing 17, and God forbid when she leaves college she ends up staying at home and working needing a vehicle there are no available permits to pay for at £160 a year 😞

what gets me what are you actually paying, for it’s not a service or a guaranteed product, ie no guarantee of a parking space. Total scam.

Arghhhh parking zones....

The only time I ever got parking tickets was outside my house with a valid parking permit...

Essentially wardens would fine me for having a wheel on a line that's invisible under mud, or once I parked next to the bins without realising someone moved them of the designated space and again my wheel was touching the line... I was furious... And the number of times I had to park 10min away fromy home... Ehhh. When you try to reason with them they just shut you down.

Also where are the money going from those permits? Deffo not to the roads!

Ok rant over, sorry for the outburst! 😂

Is it free for Leccy cars?😁
To be fair, at the moment free for the first zero road tax car (my wife has to have a low emissions vehicle for work, belive it or not, 1.5l Ford focus diesel. )
That goes to £10 Road tax next year so I wait with baited breath to see if the councils pick up on the fact that these "were non taxable vehicles " are now taxable and whack it up to full charge.
Not sure about tax exempt, but looking at a series 2a if it doesn't have to pay.

There's too many cars. Simple as that.
Everyone seems to think that they should be entitled to park several cars per household these days, whereas in times gone by (but within my memory) not every household had a car, let alone several.
If you want to continue to live with the level of convenience that you currently you enjoy, you're going to have to put up with the inevitable counterbalance of inconvenience.
