Had my jab yesterday evening. Timed it for 19.10 and took GF (10 years younger than me and quite a wait still) along as well on the off chance of spare vaccine. Suffice to say when the 19:30 patient turned up they had to open a new vial with more jabs than pending appointments. There were 5 of us who brought partners siblings etc and all got one. I asked admin how often that happened. More than 50 pc of the time. So book a late one and take someone else with you. As we left the admin girl was ringing her aunts uncles etc to get them all in

also don’t wait for your letter inviting you. Keep trying NHS website to book. I was able to 10 days before my letter arrived

Talking if tips.
I had an AZ jab a week ago. No immediate side effects except fatigue the following day, but as I'd been working in arduous conditions I didn't think anything of it.
But since early last week I've been experiencing extremely unpleasant abdominal pain. Its a radiating ache in the stomach/liver area right under the diaphragm. I was worried at first it was my liver of pancreas but eating and drinking set it off instantly so it would seem to be gastric. For two days I didn't dare eat or drink anything but water. Didn't go to work on Friday because I couldn't face going to bed the night before, knowing as soon as I lay down I'd get this sickening dull ache, like the pain you get after being punched in the guts and having the wind knocked out of you. Wednesday night I came close to dialing 111 in the middle of the night.

Then yesterday afternoon, almost seven days to the hour since having the jab, the pain stopped. I since done a bit of googling and abdominal pain is one of the side effects.
So I would say to anyone having either jab, take it easy for seven days. Don't resume any medication for seven days or start taking dietary supplements and don't overindulge spicy foods and avoid alcohol, just in case.
There are a host of other side effects as well but they all seem to stop suddenly after a week. Some people experience nothing but it may be best to go steady for the week after having it, like you would if you were convalescing.

Mortified that somewhere, someone recognises that I am now "old enough" to qualify. Mortified.

Great tip Sh1kar - absolutely criminal that the damn stuff goes to waste.
 
Had AZ as well. A slightly rough night last night, chills but sweating. And achy joints this morning but paracetamol seems to be working. Also have a massive bruise on upper arm. Another tip. If pos get the nurse to do it. I got the doctor who clearly doesn’t give many jabs. GF had nurse and no marks at all!

I'm pretty sure I only got mine because up until her death last October I was living with my mother and she would have been recorded as high risk because of her age and frailty. I expect I'm in the system as living with a highly vulnerable person, even though she has since died.
I noticed there were people younger than me on the queue but friends of my age have been told they will be called in the next cohort. I think some health authorities may be prioritising physical and circumstantial need as well as age.
 
My son in law aged 36 got his for epilepsy but a lad at work got it aged 33 for a dodgy knee .In his own words nothing else wrong with me .
No sense to the vaccine call up but hopefully when everyone is done we can get back to normal 🤪
 
Had AZ late afternoon Friday along with my wife. We'd had a call from a nurse chum who knew that there would be spares which would get thrown away.
We both felt fairly rubbish yesterday, but she went down like a sack of spuds at 10:00 this morning. Temperature was 33.4, and pale like a sheet of A4.
She'd simply not had enough fluids and her blood pressure had gone through her boots.
Bottle of water, tea, toast and VitC later, she's at 36.4 and laughing it off.
AZ is grim after the first dose, Pfizer after the second according to nursey.
It scared the sh*t out of me, so heads-up on fluids and regular paracetamol
 
At this point in time, they are still jabbing the 16 - 64 cohort who have underlying conditions, so you you will see younger people getting done. The healthy people from 60 are theoretically the youngest age group being done. They haven't called the 55-59 group yet.

Having said that, it is GP-led, so there will be some variation on this.

And I agree it would be a criminal waste if there is any left-over vaccine at the end of the day. Good tip on taking a non-jabbed "carer" with you. I have heard it is SOP to have a short-notice list ready for the end of the day/no-shows.
 
Not keen on getting it tbh. Will decide soon as it'll be my age group eventually but so far might not get it.
 
Aye good. No one I know has had it (the virus, not the vaccine). Just not seeing it around my way, but that's nothing to do with my choices, when I make them.

Have a wee read about Eyam Village during the "Black Death". It's not all about you...it's about doing what is right for the rest of humanity.

Can understand your point of view....if you're young fit and healthy and not overweight .... and have no underlying ailments.... and no respiratory problem. Chances are you'll be fine and even if you were in close contact with a carrier/spreader, the chances of becoming severely ill are pretty slim. However the fact that there has been a significant number of younger patients admitted into ITU in the second wave should be a bit of a warning to everyone. Freedom of choice, no problem with that, but I'm just twitching to get out and about again, so if getting the vaccine helps so be it! Felt a bit rubbish after the first AZ vaccine , but ok now:)
