I have a Weihrauch HW60 in 22 hornet and load 40g Hornady V Max bullets for it.
However, to get the rounds to fit in the magazine, all of the parallel section of the bullet is inside the neck of the case and the case mouth is not gripping anything
The hornet is a rimmed cartridge and if the rims overlap, the cartridge won't feed from the magazine.
Having to keep the rims stacked next to each other in the magazine reduces the length available.
To be able to get 4 rounds in the magazine, the maximum overall length of each round can't be more than about 1.710"
Single loading is a PITA because an empty magazine prevents the bolt from moving forward.
The magazine could be modified so that the bullet carrier sat a little lower, but that's clearly not what the designers had in mind for this rifle
Extraction is also not wonderful, and occasionally I have to use a 17 cal cleaning rod pushed into the barrel from the muzzle end to remove a fired case
Having said all that, the trigger is sublime, the accuracy is excellent, the jagmatch stock is really comfortable and the general finish of the rifle is very, very good.
Cheers
Bruce
Based on this review (and i have been seriously considering buying one that came up secondhand recently) I will definitely be sticking with my trusty CZ, I had heard you could mag feed 40gr ballistics as it accommodated a greater COAL. Looks like I'll be sticking with the CZ that I have which is good as its my favourite rifle! Its old and pitted but shoots sub moa and if i am having a good day sub 1/2 with 5 shots, I've owned quite a few CZs and bar one they have all been good shooters, my stalking rifle as above is a CZ550 in 6.5x55, this is a very good and accurate rifle.
In terms of ricochet I'm running 35s at 3000+ fps, I can only recall 2 ricochets in literally thousands of rounds and they may have been stones. Avoid bullets that are designed and marketed for high velocity cartridges (think 22-250) such as the nosler varmageddon 40gr FBHP and you'll be as safe as you can be with any round, these have thicker jackets and hold together. That said if you want a round that won't blow the animal up fpor the table these are better but will be bouncier, best solution is thin jacketed bullets and head shots.
