Daihatsu Terios automatic

I’ve been offered one of these at a decent price. I’d been looking more at Jimmy’s but this came up. Has anyone owned one or ideally both and can comment on them. Especially the automatic version. It’s not for serious off-roading purely for carcass extraction as some of my permissions are long drags to where I can get my current vehicle.

Thanks

Have look on You tube ,Clarkson used 1 on Top gear chased by a Hunt and cross country in muddy mess it did very well ,of course if you cant stand him turn the sound off atb

Thanks for that. Looks quite a useful little 4x4. I can’t tell from the video if it’s automatic or not but looks good. It’s a shame they don’t have a low range really. The Jimnys I’ve looked at for similar money seem to be much more corroded so they look a better buy

I had a Terios, manual version and it was very good, the only problem I had was it was a bit underpowered on really steep ground.

It was very reliable and held its price really well. If you're not on very steep ground you won't go far wrong.

Thanks for that. Not particularly steep ground. And it’s mainly just fields to go round so that’s why it hasn’t got to be a serious off road vehicle. It seems a good buy. I’m just slightly concerned about lack of low range and I’ve never had an auto 4x4 before.

In the past I had 2 lwb shoguns 2.5d auto's. Fine in mud etc as the power was constant with the Auto box.
Also very nice for towing my heavy loaded welding trailer in the London traffic, even better coming home nackerd with just one pedal to push lol

+1 I had one of these, nice and nimble, low on power but very lightweight, like a mountain goat but without low ratio.
Got an old ford ranger now, does all I need.

Don't know what your budget is I've not had a Terios but have had disco, mitsubishie pinin and a Jimmy. All were capable disco was heavy and cut up the ground , pinin was expensive to run and service and the Jimmy was tight for space inside but excellent off road. On road the Jimmy isn't the best and yes they do suffer from the tin worm. I've currently got a dacia duster 4x4 , and can't fault it. It's the old Nissan x-trail system and is just as good off road as Jimmy but much better on road. If you can stretch the budget a little might be worth considering. But if your getting a decent deal on the Terios put decent tyres on it and it will do what you need as long as your sensible and they do look good fun. Not sure but think they have a viscous coupling for the four wheel drive system instead of the landrover / Jimmy system of clunking leavers to the gearbox

I’ve already got a van. We also have a family car. So it’s really just something around the £1000-1200 mark. Not worth me spending anymore as my furthest permission is probably 20 minutes away and its extraction and so I can keep any ticks and other beasties contained that I most need it for as my daughter gets in the van quite often as well. And After a mate of mine found a tick on his 6 year old that he thinks she picked up in the car I’ve been double paranoid about it.

I’ve actually decided against the Terios I posted about as there was something about the seller I wasn’t to sure about. After being told it had never needed welding I checked the old MOTs online last night it proved to be well founded as needed welding the last 2 years in a row

So it’s back to the drawing board

I’m definitely looking out for a Terios anon others as it seems to tick the boxes

We had one in the deer park for years, in fact the old estate we had it off bought it back last year as they said it was the only thing that never got stuck and wasn’t desirable enough to get nicked Fab motors
