Declining Turkey Populations in Alabama

I believe the Game Conservancy did a similar project some time back. Similar conclusions reached.
Guess whose work Dick Potts and co at GC emulated…( - with Prof Marcströms active assistance and encouragement); of course, as we have seen time and again, when science is adulterated with political considerations, wildlife loses, just as much as science does. For this reason alone, Songbird Survival are a far more worthy cause than RSPB will ever be.

Nice one Freeforester, true words. It always amazes me here on the farm, I have a wide range of friends & acquaintances who visit me from time to time, & some are how can I say, politely but vehemently opposed to predation control & shooting, I take them on a tour of the farm, show them the steps I take, & spend a long time explaining the benefits it brings, show the the Hares, the songbirds, the nest boxes, the deer, the hedges & trees that I have planted over the last 50 years, I wake them up early with a breakfast on the lawn, & we listen to the dawn chorus, & not once have I had anyone leave with the same attitude that they came with, it makes it all worthwhile. Most people out there are well-meaning, & care about the environment, but are sadly misdirected by concerns with vested interests.

And it is even better to start at a young age. I am a member of an organization that brings wildlife education into the classroom. We also arrange wildlife and nature tours for the children and have experts that volunteer their time to help. It is very rewarding.
