Deer eye colour

I've just run a LED lamp over a herd of sika and noticed that the eye reflection is much yellower in the young deer compared to the mature animals reflecting bright white?
Does anyone know why or what causes this?

Not a biologist.

But I know that, in humans, the lens of the eye turns a bit yellow with age, distorting colour perception.

So, I hypothesise that similar progression occurs in deer, with either the lens or the tapetum lucidum (reflective eye thingy) changing colour as the animals mature.

Anyone have a better idea?

Its all about chromosomes, genes, age and sometimes medical conditions, thats the case in humans anyway. Eye color can also change depending on moods.
