Deer in central Oxford

Last weekend we visited my daughter and stayed at St Agnes college in Oxford.
On a visit to the botanical Gardens we caught a glimpse a roe and when I peeped through a boundary slated gate I was eye to eye with a munty. !
In the evening we saw a fox and another munty on Magdalen cricket ground out field. Also I have never seen so many grey squirrels.

I used to shoot in a big back garden (10ac) in Oxford and it was teeming with roe and munties.
The owner sold up just after Covid which was a real shame as we lost the shooting on there.

There have been herds of fallow deer for a very long time within the grounds of Magdalen College, and I think in Worcester College as well. Hardly surprising there are Roe in there. There are also plenty of Muntjac these days all over.

Yes we saw the fallow when we punted through the deer park. They were in the college side of the park. No fawns to be seen.

No fallow in Worcester College sadly, or I would have had them.

Hi

I have seen a Roe doe (daughter videod it on mobile comms device in a Close) wander into a suburban road on outskirts, probably between 2 graveyards and Iffley Village- it didnt want to come onto my premises only 70yds away :(.

Magdalen College is where a herd of (enclosed) park Fallow are. Boranical Gardens are a stones throw from Christchurch College where I have seen Roe, with many tourists wandering by, on the sports pitches.........admittedly some 50+yds aways!

I live 10 miles away. The place is heaving with Munties - they’ve bred in our garden at least twice to my knowledge in the last 2 years. The population is still rising steadily I would guess.

I helped a friend to clear a building site in Oxford of muntjac and roe, when I first managed an estate in Oxfordshire the place was infested with literally everything, 2-3 foxes a night, 2 muntjac a day, magpies in larsens whenever they were set, 100 squirrels a month wasn't uncommon
