Deer Numbers in Scotland

Urban deer don’t cause problems, they are very traffic smart IMHO

There should be part of driving tests focused on identifying wildlife risks as well.

Underpasses for popular deer corridors should be built

More deer crossing signs should be put up, run on solar that light up when you pass high risk areas early morning and late evening

I think a big obstacle to be overcome is that a lot of people involved in managing Roe still think that they have an overbearing influence on the local population genetics by NOT pulling the trigger.

In my opinion there are very few scenarios where not shooting a Roe deer which can be lawfully shot at the material time exist.

I think people also greatly underestimate how many Roe deer they should be culling to effectively manage the population.

Roe deer management is undoubtedly hampered by the negligible commercial value of carcasses and whilst there is discussion on community larders and easing the requirements for selling venison.

It’s not enough in my opinion and for someone like me I simply don’t have enough time to process all my carcasses and as much as I enjoy processing small numbers it is very much the deer stalking element that I value most.

I’m a deer stalker who occasionally butchers Roe deer, definitely don’t want to be a butcher who occasionally goes deerstalking.

For me a Roe deer carcass subsidy scheme is something that also needs to be considered as part of the solution.

Everyone to fit bull/roo bars to their massive urban 4WDs and crack on.
