Deer poaching Wyre forest

I have tried to post a link to the BBC News website about this but can’t. Go to bbc news and put into the search bar deer poaching. 15 fallow including 3 fawns shot and left. Disgusting.

Agree, absolutely foul. I can't see it being poachers though? Otherwise why leave the meat, and kill fawns? It smacks more to me of some cretins using them as target practice? Maybe even with illegally-held firearms? Regardless, I hope the perpetrators are caught and made to answer for this. It's utterly outrageous

There is something funny here. Anybody else notice the lack of blood on carcases. Very unusual when I shoot deer but on these no sign of head, neck or body shots.
A friend of mine tells me that he found seven dead fallow in a field with no marks on them, they had been eating spilled slug pellets.

More likely sensitive editing.

Interesting... This is on my doorstep, to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if this was just the only time it's been discovered. Wyre forest has very easy transport links and sits within half an hour of Central Birmingham, Worcester, Wolverhampton, Dudley... Easy poaching ground. I do see deer I Wyre regularly, but not in the numbers you'd expect the ground here to support.

That's a very good point! And how could it be that they were found in a group? It hadn't occurred to me to question that, but whenever I've shot deer in groups, the remainder have been very quick to scatter
Under a lamp?

I would guess using NV or thermal sight plus a moderator you would get a few out of one group. Don’t think you’d do it with a lamp. Either way 15 is a pile of deer to get in one go. In my experience poachers shoot a couple and pick up and go quick. To pick up 15 is a time consuming job, even without gralloching.

Am I missing something? I can't find anywhere it mentions they were in a group. The guy just says they have found 15 so far.

I don't think this was poaching for meat and I would guess this was done with thermal or night vision rather than a lamp. I don't think that if poachers shot that amount they would walk away. If they were disturbed then wouldn't somebody have come forward to say that they had seen suspicious activity. Why shoot young fawns as well as they wouldn't be worth processing. I wonder if somebody in the area got fed up of the crop damage and just tried to reduce the numbers. Anyway it's a shame and a waste and will likely reflect badly on all deer stalkers as we will all be seen by anti hunting people as the same.

This is going on more than you think with all this thermal nv gear about. It’s got to be payed for thousands on thermal gear

I’d put a guess that it was left as a message maybe to a landowner, keeper or stalker. There’s some nasty people out there

I used to live near Kinlet. I could name 10 poachers who live within 3 miles. They shoot all year round. Nothing would surprise me. The police know who they are but are powerless to do anything. Gone are are the days where a FLO could find an excuse not to grant a firearms cert. Criminals have rights. If the paperwork, security and permission is in order it is hard to turn an application down. Even if they do time they can reapply in 3 years. Unless they are caught in the act they will probably be back for more. So few police around they are not going to be caught.

The only poachers I know of in my area are the gypos who hunt rabbits with dogs and a lamp.
how do these poachers operate that you mention? They have a firearms license and just go shooting wherever they please? Or do they have permission but just don't care what they shoot as long as they're shooting something?

I've always wondered how poachers go about it, even with a moderator a calibre powerful enough to kill a deer will still have resounding crack echoing across the land which could easily be heard, unless this is in extremely isolated areas in the dead of night

I too was surprised by the lack of blood. If you look it appears one has been dragged across the stubble but no blood. Prehaps somebody related to or part of the local deer group might post some hard facts.

As for finding empty cases in a stubble field, you got to be kidding, it took me ages to find an empty .204 case this week and i knew within inches where it fell into the stubble.
