Deerhunter Muflon Light Jacket

Hi,

I'm looking for some feedback on the Deerhunter Muflon Light jacket please.

I'm looking for a good all round jacket for rough hunting and following hounds. I like to do a lot of walking and don't need anything too warm. But still warm enough when hounds stop, etc.

I like the look of the jacket and it seems to be good quality, but would like the views of those who have the jacket.

Or maybe you might know of another jacket that would fit my requirements.

Thanks very much.

I have no direct information about that specific jacket. But in general terms, It looks good and has a hood, so you can batten down the hatches when the weather gets nasty. It's got their DeerTex membrane to give you waterproof qualities and a degree of breathability. There are better membranes to be had, the obvious choice being Gore-Tex, although that isn't the only one, which improves breathability, but of course there's a cost for that.

Were I to be wanting a coat for the purposes you require, then I'd take a punt on it. I've got a Deerhunter jacket with the Deer-Tex membrane in it and it works well. Although I use it as a walk-little-sit-a-lot-jacket and I've got a Härkila Pro Hunter jacket (a good few years old now though) which has Gore-Tex for when there's more walking involved. Incidentally I've also got a Seeland jacket, which has their See-Tex membrane that also deputises for the others and that works pretty well too. So perhaps worth looking at their range before you pull the trigger. Of the Deerhunter or Seeland jackets, I prefer the Deerhunter, but the Härkila trumps them both.

Hope that's of some help.

Great jacket I own one. When you say following hounds do you mean running after them because I find it quite warm but then again I am. Very warm blooded.

I have one that I bought earlier in the year. Good jacket and you just need to wear a single layer underneath if you find it warm. For the price versus some other it’s decent

Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it.

Yes it would be for running after hounds and other little dogs so has to be light enough not to drown me in sweat but then warm enough for when they stop, after sweating and being out in the elements in the cold and rain. I'm not looking for much am I, haha.

I had a cheap softshell jacket that was perfect, light enough to run with hounds and then gave enough protection from the wind and rain. It wasn't 100% waterproof but it was good enough for what I wanted. I have seen a few softshell but none have hoods. Deerhunter do one which is cheap but has no hood.

I was hoping the muflon light would fit the bill.

I have Kaiwaka gear for the really wet days but it's not the most practical for covering long distances

I had a look at the seeland and liked the look of them, but as you said the deerhunter seems to get better reviews.

Vernon Carrie do a sika jacket which looks good too.

Decisions decisions, haha

Iv skied in mine so reckon you would be too warm if your chasing dogs. I have one of the deerhunter soft shells it cost me 99p I a sale years ago. Its been brilliant but just lately I replaced it with go outdoors soft shell which is decent value for money and if it rips can just slap some duct tape on it.

Thanks, sounds like it would be to warm.

Pity the deerhunter softshell doesn't come with a hood, but I might chance it.

I like the softshell, they seem to be a good all round jacket.

Thanks again lads and any recommendations greatly appreciated.

I have one and it is well made a pretty weather proof. I do find it too warm though so I have had under arm zips added for ventilation. A mod that has made in a spring summer and winter coat now.

I have a muflon it’s a toastie coat for sitting out but as soon as you go to walk anywhere it has to come off because I sweat buckets in it and I’m a rite coldy!! I get cold in no time but I’m never cold in this that’s for sure!!! I used to have a ram jacket(shame they stopped making them )because you could wear layers if it was cold and just wear the coat in summer
