Differences between Ogden's Rifle Slips?

Getting back to this. Here are some specific questions for the forum. Hopefully nobody is bothered by this, I'm curious and am doing this for everyone (now and into the future), as there's a bit of a dearth of specific info on these excellent cases/slips. Especially so for those of us overseas who cannot easily call Phil to find out.

Which begs the question: are there retailers that sell the slips that sell via the internet and can ship to the US? Edit: curses, Monarch Country Products' AND Durham Decoys' websites inform me that they, too, cannot ship to the US. I just sent an email to Monarch for possible options…

Btw, I've just received an AIM 55", which is quite nice. I think I will also order a Quickslip, but Ogden's website informs me I must call to order vs. do it online. I first have to talk to my cell company for advice on an appropriate international cell plan so the call alone doesn't cost me a kidney and my first born. And due to Covid, nobody at Verizon answers! Been on hold for 23min so far…

Specific questions to the group:
  • The main zip on the Ultralite/Quadlite/Night Vision isn't a waterproof-type, like on the Quickslip, correct?
  • Ignoring the Quickslip, any info on how the zips compare across the other models?
  • What's the weight of the Ultralight? (any size)
  • What's the weight of the Night Vision? (any size)
  • What's the weight and depth of the Quickslip? (any size)
  • Thoughts on the Cordura weight (500d? 1000d?) on the Ultralite/Quadlite/Night Vision?
  • Do any models allow one to hide the backpack straps behind a zipper?

Below is an updated table. As I get updated info, I'll post a new table.

Well, I'm sad to say I have given up on getting an Ogden's slip. Being in the US (and during Covid) I couldn't get ahold of Ogden's. I even tried Monarch Country Products for their rebranded Ogden's and try as they might, the shipping they found was off the charts (north of 100 dollars).

So, I got myself an AIM 55. They must have some deal with the shippers, as the shipping cost was reasonable. The bag is pretty nice, but the waist harness could be improved substantially and the fabric is a bit abrasive. If I have the shoulder straps snugged, all is well, but if I let more weight rest on the waist belt the rifle butt hits me on the back of the legs. I would've preferred a higher carry.

But, it's very well made and I love the pockets, plus it's the perfect length for my Toyota 4Runner's backseat. Thanks all for the input, and hopefully my posts on this matter help someone in the future.

One of the things to consider is that a number of companies use cotton for stitching which may be fine in a nice warm dry country but over here is rains... quite a bit when we aren’t going through droughts. Err!!!
anyway,
phil uses fishing line which doesn’t rot.
I have one of these btw,

and carried 3 rifles in it on occasion without bother. Well except for the fact I had to carry the sodding thing.

I'm surprised you can't source quality rifle slips in the US, it's a big enough country with a far larger market than the UK
In the US you can find decent drag bags like AIMs range: Triad Tactical, Eberlestock, Hogue, etc. But finding well-made cases that are simple is tough. Low-end garbage like Allen dominates the market, and tacticool rules the day.

I have a good simple case made in the US by the unfortunately-named Armageddon Gear. The model is called the Precision Rifle Case. But there’s nothing quite like the Ogden’s Quik Slip; nicely finished, backpack straps, pretty waterproof by nature (no extra cover really needed), 50-55” long, big pockets.

Really my only niggles with the Quik Slip are I’d like it one more inch longer to fit my Bergara 24” barrel plus 9” suppressor and add an allowance to attach an optional and more serious backpacking waist belt.

Besides the fabric feel (not a huge deal), the last point above is my main criticism of the AIM. Their waist belt is just a thin strap. The only rifle case with a waist belt that’s worth anything seems to be the Eberlestock 52” & 57” drag bags.

Anyway, first-world problems. For more lengthy backpack carry, before I try the Eberlestock I’m giving a Karrimor SF Sabre 45 + Kifaru Gun Bearer a go. That way I can bring a small chair, shooting sticks, food/water, electronic call, binos, rangefinder and extra winter clothes when I attempt my first coyote shoot this winter in Minnesota.

Download Skype onto your PC put a little credit on it $10 or so and phone them. Their ordinary phone will ring and it won't even cost you a hand, let alone a kidney.

David.

I cannot believe I didn’t think about this. Thanks!
