Dip and Pack or trophies into UK?

Folks, can anyone give me a ball park on what the UK end charges are *roughly for trophies to come into the UK?

It’s easy enough to get a rough dip and pack price. And a rough shipping to the UK price - although these fluctuate.

What I’m not sure about is what I’ll get hit with when items reach Heathrow? I assume there’s some sort of clearance/vet charge?

And then possibly some sort of onward charge to either your house or taxidermist?

Appreciate there’s some folk that have gone out before so any info is very much appreciated - it’s all a bit new to me!

Thanks!

It’s a few years since my last shipment back from SA but I remember that the easiest way to work it out is that whatever the Taxidermy bill in SA is you will double that figure by the time (5-10 months) the delivery arrives at your door, shipping to Johannesburg, SA paperwork then shipping costs, U.K. paperwork, U.K. shipping including license paperwork

I do this alot with mounts mainly. In the UK you will pay 5% VAT on trophies and 5% on duty. Then there is the clearance fees, vets and delivery to your house.
As a rough guide with the SA charge, airfare and all of the associated costs it works out at around £160-£180 per item depending on how many you bring in. It's more expensive for a few but I usually have around 40 and this is the cost.
It's getting more difficult as Turkish airlines cannot take them anymore as Dnata who are their LHR handling agents have refused to take trophies. Luftwaffa are being painful in Frankfurt asking for special permits to ship to the UK. I now have a crate coming via Air Mauritius.

Thanks! So who sorts out all this paperwork? Does the taxidermist invoice everything? I’m worried it’ll get stuck somewhere in transition. Seems like it could take a long time for an invoice to come back UK end before you can clear the next step.

I’m doing dip and pack for everything.
Gavin White, KG Logistics. They are based in Kent.

Iv'e just sent out a crate to USA, and they may well help you with importing trophies.

Thanks malc. I’m just a bit lost on what the shipping is going to be at the Africa end. Dip and pack individual fees are easy enough as they’re on a list but hard to get anything concrete beyond the ‘treatment’. It sounds like the shipping route might be convoluted to Heathrow rather than just on a direct flight? It’s been easy enough to get UK end estimates for vet fees and onwards delivery.

Really complicated to be honest!

Generally the Taxidermist in SA will bill you for his work and normally the paperwork/licensing for export at their end. As with many industries they will have an “ Arrangement “ with the U.K. company that will do the receiving paperwork in the U.K. and the delivery to you. Generally the payments are in 2 stages, the Taxidermy bill that they want up front, this will be followed by the bills for shipping and paperwork to get the trophies to you. In the event you are not happy with the second lot of bills they still have your money for the taxidermy and your trophies. I am not being overly negative but as I put in my first post double what the pure taxidermy invoice is and that’s what you will end up paying

Thanks bud! That might be not far off if I’m £600-£700 for D&P so possibly £1200-£1400 for shipping at their end. Bit mad when you consider stuff gets sent all over the world daily at a far lower cost
