Running around the estate yesterday trying to spot Fallow does. Got almost into a big herd but the wind flipped from N to NE and away they went. Not completely but just so there was no backstop, these b's are getting clever.
We moved to a new spot and my young chap set off to look into a hollow between two woods. I watched him go into stalking mode, the wind was right so I thought we were on. A couple of minutes later I got a telecom " There's a buck that's strange in the hollow, his heads on the floor and he's not moving". I told him to hang on and went for a look myself. The buck was certainly head down but suddenly started leaping about and falling over, his antlers were enmeshed in something. Well we ended up getting closer but at 120 yds I could see it was that orange mesh they put along roadworks. As he was now getting really agitated I shot him, a pity because he was a mature buck in good order. I think he had only been there a day but couldn't get away because a lot of the mesh was buried and wouldn't break or come free. A great pity and really annoying that this had probably been left there by the people who put up signs and fenced.part of the footpath because the badgers had dug holes on it.

I shot a decent Fallow Buck 2 years ago he had similar tangled round his head gear and had got himself tethered to a barbwire fence he had clearly tried to duck through and then just thrashed about getting further tangled up

Had a few this season with hefty bale twine on them. A pair of decent prickets tied together had to be despatched. Awful waste.

Always a shame. I’ve a buck head complete with a birds nest of wire cable. I shot him in early August, surely he would get in a tangle with something as he tried to rub the velvet off (I'm assuming that is how how he came to be the subject of this photograph) or possibly one of his cohort in the autumn when they start to spar. You can see the wire is quite tightly wrapped around his head below the pedicle and was already starting to get raw, fly strike would make him miserable.

I found a rotten fallow buck head wrapped in plastic electric fencing and snagged on barbwire. The poor bugger must of died an awful miserable way.
Bloody plastic, and lead is bad! 😤
