Just starting out reloading and have picked up a MTN case-gard tray which looks good.

Am I under thinking somewhere, but is there any reason not to DIY loading trays from wood and the correct size drill.?

i have a wooden block i didn't make , it came with my 45/120 , it's perfect

if you have the time go for it mate

I had shop bought jobbies, ended up making a wooden one in the workshop, it only took ten minutes, perfect for what I want.
Seems like you're handy with the tools, so get cracking :tiphat:

My block is a slab of circa 35mm thick MDF with different sized holes each side. One side holds 100 x .204 cases, the other side 100 x .270 cases in holes big enough to make in/out easy and slick but small enough and deep enough to prevent annoying wobbles. Drilled with appropriate sized milling end-cutters to give flat bottomed holes.
Nothing wrong at all with making your own gear fella. It's often better for the job than 'shop bought' because you make what you actually want rather than compromising on stuff like size, capacity, layout and shape.

I have 3 home made ones. Mate made me 2 the other I just drilled a piece of 12mm ply.
I have by chance some varriable space trays which our microbiology dept were binning. Perfect for .243.
