What you don't see now is controlled burning of stubbles, JG, that you did in my youth as I think it may now be illegal in the UK?

i have an idea that the you know who ****s forced that to stop here also...the cane is still burned though

My Jamaican ex said that on the island when they wanted to burn the cane they'd trap mongoose and then tie rags to their tails. Which they then dampen with petrol and set the rags alight. They then let the mongoose go free and it'd run through the cane and set it alight. The other reason for doing this was also as it would kill any snakes in the crop.
