yes as far as i know, they fall under the spring trap approval order 24 hour checks.
its only some rat, mouse, and mole that you dont have to check daily

ill admit i cant find any decent info on checking doc traps, if i find out im wrong ill admit. any one got a link?

I've not looked for the legislation but have a friend who's a keeper on a large, famous shooting estate. He's told me that he no longer legally has to check his DOC traps everyday and he would know.

It does advise regular checks which I agree is a bit ambiguous.
At a time when the shooting industry is under increasing scrutiny I would personally be checking my traps daily, keeping a record of what species and when I am catching, log the location of each trap using what3words and report any incidents of “human” trap interference to the police.

Correct. If something steps on the plate it’s skull is getting crushed. No if’s or buts about it.
Even keepers are allowed a day off occasionally. If you have your vermin well under control, missing one day out of 7 when 95% of your traps will be empty is no big deal.

spoke to the importer today, all spring traps are covered by the spring trap approval order, there isnt a specific law relating to the time of inspection of any trap but the best practice is 24 hourly checks, 1911 animal act or something named similar state traps for rabbits and hare should be checked every 24 hours.
the chance of an animal suffering in a doc trap is incredably low but if i used them i would be sticking to the 24 hour rule

For me the anticipation would get the better of me not knowing .As a young keeper I was very eager to check traps whether I’d set them or not and nowadays still the same .I run a few fens for rats and mink cages 27/7 and cant wait to see what the night has brought me .
Not used the new traps as not targeting stoats but heard good things about them .
Used to squeeze the pee out of stoats onto the trap plate years ago which was a deffo until you’d cleared an area .
Mate had a stoat in a Larsen this year which surprised the hell out of him ,even more so as she had given birth to a litter but all dead .
Legal or not ,it’s certainly best practice to check once a day ,twice with squirrel traps in place .
Trapped a young rat last night on the finest tickle possible as I thought mice were taking the dog biscuits .
Bit far back but dead is dead .
