Dog Tracker

We used a Tractive gps on the collie at work that is prone to roaming, usually looking for a bitch! Not always, the gps was eye opening as to how far he was going and how often!

I digress! It was ok but found it not hugely accurate and the bloody thing used to tell us the dog had left the property, get all your sh*t on and rush out the door and the bugger would be sitting on the deck!

At the end of the day we(the boss) decided it was t good enough for the cost, but then we’re farmers!

This was a few years ago now mind so it may have improved.

I have one sitting around doing nothing, used it on the rehome Vizsla, gave up as it's £70 + a year, you'd be better off with a Garmin after a few years. The tractive is also patchy in places with poor mobile signal . Plus the dog has "slightly" better recall now...

Thank you Farmerjoe. I am a retired, well nearly, keeper who now does deer control over a large mainly arable patch. I don't want to spend much as he rarely vanishes.

Thanks VG76. I'm 84 so might not have a few years... Don't want to spend a lot. Just a bit of assurance when using my old dog on new ground.

I have a couple for my Borders as they are prone to doing their own thing. I have found them very accurate and saved the day a few times. That said it can be very anoying also when you can see your dog in ten feet in front of you in a corn field and not coming back as he is having a good time thinking you cant see him!!

Thanks for the reply Cris. I think I will give one a go. I live in North Suffolk in the centre of East Anglia. Some of our arable fields are trully enormous as they were WW2 bomber airflelds and are now minature prairies. Flat as a pancake too. If dog vanishes in that lot it can take days...

Is there a monthly cost with these, do you need phone credit for the sms?

Thanks
No, although it might depend on the package. I don’t think there is a sim in the unit, you use the app on your phone to to see the location, either “live” or updating at intervals depending kn how you set it.

All you need to do is turn the unit on and then use the app. It’s very easy.

Yes there is, you can either subscribe to their basic or premium package with options for monthly or annual plans. I had a year's premium for around £80 but unless you're in an area with good signal, it's not worth it
