Doggy Question Please.

A friend of my wife’s owns a dear little dog that everyone loves, he’s 14 now and a small lump half way along his tail is making him uncomfortable, he keeps worrying at it, must be itching.... the vet says it’s benign and suggests removing poor little buggers tail.... cost, wait for it.... £1300

Which the lady simply doesn’t have to spare, so chaps anyone any ideas as to what could be done for him?

I reckon at 14 the removal of it's tail would be just as much of an embuggerance as the itch.
What about some cream that is a sort of anti fungal?

Ask about a topical steroid. Other than that, I don't have enough information to suggest anything,

Feck me that’s crazy money, I had to get one of my lurchers docked last year and it cost €160.

Should the tail actually need removing, would she qualify for treatment at PDSA? Just a thought.

Worth trying a different vet, the prices of the three near vary quite dramatically

Worth getting a second opinion elsewhere on treatment and, if needed, price.

I think at that price it's hard not to think the vet isn't playing on their love of the dog. Let's face it, although I don't know what type of dog it is, I doubt one would cost £1,300. I'm not advocating anything drastic, but these things need put into perspective.

I was quoted £1100 to remove labradors damaged tail with me regular vet, got a second quote from another vet practice and was £300, needless to say I moved vets after that
