Drive by squirrel shooting

It was blowing a gale yesterday on the golf course. Golfers tend not to bother with 40mph winds as most find it impossible to play in such difficult conditions. The outside chance of rain mopped up the remaining hardy souls and the car park was empty by 6pm. That gave me thick end of 90mins to have a mooch around before light failed.

I played a few holes before 6pm to get an idea of what was about. The deer were in cover and the rabbits never seem to put in an appearance in those conditions until dark falls, so with squirrels being super active with their nut burying and their numbers being borderline ridiculous amongst the myriad of nut and fruit trees that are now wonderfully mature, (having been planted in the mid 90's) they seemed like the best quarry to pursue. CF and RF stayed in the truck and the 12 bore had a rare outing. It almost smiled at the sight of fresh air as I pulled it from the slip. It had been a while.

I normally go on foot but because I had limited time and the exercise was sterile pest control, I took a golf buggy and a shotgun and just blazed away. I am no great shot with shotgun but most of them were on the ground and very obliging. 23 shells fired and missed a handful so approaching 20 tree rats down. Slight reduction but it is going to need much more effort.

It is lovely having such manicured conditions to "play" in. Had there been bystanders, I am sure it would have looked comedy.

Surely there is a “Golf Rule “ banning it as there is for most things!!!

Great stuff - hope you used a suitable golfing towel to wipe down your 12 bore after your escapade. 😆

Mine lives in the truck. 😆

Ps - not a golfer - my dog found it on a walk near a golf course.

With a golf buggy you cal almost get to within golf club range of most things
Not sporting but effective.
Certainly not sporting shooting semi static squirrels with a shotgun but they need thinning and it is not always easy getting access in daylight so needs must in terms of being as efficient as poss.
