DSC1 Do i need it ?

Us old sods can remember those happy days and most still have a rifle in there hands.

Just a thought as we know we have two great stalkers in the south east both with S names.
Both are experts in there stalking could a alternative to DSC1 be a letter from them .
Stating a stalker as be out with them and shown to be safe and know what to do.

Guys it is only a thought

I’m fairly new to stalking and found my DSC1 knowledge very useful on my first few guided stalks. I think it also gives the guides more confidence in your knowledge/ability.

Are you going to the same range as your first and keep shooting practice as some one else as said evan with a 22lr or air rifle . I know you will do it and are you using sticks for it this time 🤞

I'm new to stalking. Do you need to have done your dsc1 before you can go stalking. I'm not new to shooting and I process my own sheep, I'm sure there is still a lot on the course for me to learn but do I need it. To do the course I would need to wait till there is one I could drive to each day as I have a pack of dogs and other animals to look after. Cheers
Basically no, but it can help when dealing with the police and landowners. They tend to look at you more favourably if you have a qualification.

You don't need it!

But as an advocate of, "life long learning" I think that you will benefit from it in all of the ways mentioned above.

Sign up for the BDS distance learning course if you can't manage two days for the face to face course, and practice the shooting especially the head shot from 15 m, it's not as easy as you might think.

Legally no you do not need it.

In the real world away from the armchair experts and social media naysayers I found it a useful course with some practical knowledge gained, and FEOs and landowners seem to like it as well.

NO you do not but after many years I just completed this in October22 at the age of 65.. If I passed any one can do DSC training for two months and practice the shooting test.

It is up to you good luck

Could not take much in from the book that's why I done DSC training and there mock test are great. two months for £18.00

a retest cost a lot more and time.

I have my own field to practice with the 22lr on. It's just not passed for the 6.5mm

When it come to shooting the BASC target got harder to remember the two ring areas to hit and it was raining hard.

I was lucky done it first time that is why i say practice as others failed to see there disappointment over a couple of mil out of ring.
And having to wait months for a retest. 👍

I would say practicing with an air rifle or a calibre like a 22lr that you wont be using on the day is pretty pointless and maybe even more harmful to your shooting than not practicing.

Compensation for the drop on a 22lr shot at 100m and using a 6.5CM at 100m are very different.

Take the rifle you're going to use on the DSC1 and go to a local range, make sure you're confident in the zero.

Yes I'm taking my own rifle. I have enquired at a range which isn't far from me that you can pay as a none member for each visit. I am a member of 2 clubs but 1 only has a range upto 50m and the other is far away. Not really suitable to keep nipping upto.
