DSC2

Another thing that you have to learn that they don’t teach you is the days of the old-fashioned Deer management are gone.

Look at the animal? Is it the right one? ETC

It’s is it in season is it legal? Is it safe? Dead next one!

That’s the modern age of day management now so if you’re in the Stone Age and go by the old rules you’ve got a lot to learn☝️

I’ve just had nod from the boss, as soon as the fallow are in let rip of which I quite enjoy because it’s a species that I’ve never really had this end in Norfolk, so the trip to Essex to get on and get my tits in the sink I’m looking forward to.

Personally, I call it stupidity, something clearly that I never learnt from
Perhaps selective stupidity sums it up better. Autopilot kicks in and off you go.

First time I shot 4 fallow together and had to drag them 200m ish..then through a hedge and over a ditch I thought "Sod this ...wont happen again"....Then same again earlier this year ... 4 out of a group of 20 ..... But I already know I fit the "stupid" bracket :)

Thing is Lee your little skateboard will buckle under the weight if the tits are in the right sink :coat:

I personally think its gone wrong if you cant be selective but in many cases its a matter of numbers. I left a nice fallow and my mate says why did you leave it? I had shot a couple of decent (for me) bucks (it was Oct so does were out) ... well says he...the guys either side will not leave it so you may as well shoot it,. Different if you have a 10,000 acre patch and can "manage" them ..rather then what the bulk of do which is to shoot them.

If you are off to Essex you need an App to translate "Hillbilly" to "TOWIE" 🥰

And again no arguments as usual, which is the only telling thing. You do not controll others opinions nor dictate them, especially mine.
I will probably have more experience with education and hunting schooling being from the continent, since over here education is mandatory and way more extensive then any DSC course. You need to be a biologist to shoot anything on terra firma, but hey you have shot a few deer, so you can mock all with your superpowers! Shooting deer makes you the guru off education and all present courses for sure.....

When did you do your DSC's again?
Funny you should say that but while living in Canada for a year I did their hunters education exams for the province so sadly that’s something else you’re wrong about 🤷🏼 it was 13 years ago after I’d been shooting deer for 7-8 years already , see how i answered a question? Good isn’t it ! So if you’d be so kind as to answer mine …. How much deerstalking experience do you have ?

Ah! arguments, now you've amazed me twice in a row! 😁

Like stated/edited above, lets continue this over a beer mate, you teach me and the wife, then we'll be buying....

Why dont you ask Chris to throw in some accommodation, a medal class animal and a free cape mount as well....just to add sprinkles to the cherry on the cake

And the wife????

Hells Bells, Vicar!

Talk about having a cake and eating it!!!

I'm sure not going to make it easy for him, come on! I'm even looking now how to get him of my sh*tlist, must be worth something.... 😁

There was a character in Hot Fuzz that comes to mind ..Peter Ian Staker .... PISTAKER  ..ignoring the spelling I think you get my point.

Nah, i have seriously just unignored him. No good gesture should stay unpunished...
And just a beer is also fine, still have to build the mantle for the trofees anyway and I probably would be under more scrutiny then a DSC-2 stalk when going out, so...

I did my Level 2 stalk with Ian Farrington (Home - Farrington Deer Services) back in March.

I too wanted a practice stalk prior, just to settle in to the idiosyncrasies of the particular witness and the way they work. Ian talked me out of, stating that if I got anything wrong, there were several other stalks over the weekend to get right and so we should simply go live from the outset. A seriously comprehensive brief before hand and I was left with no doubts of his expectations and the stalk ended up unable to have gone any better.

In terms of any so called drop in standards we are either up to the standard or not and a witness of Ian's experience, expertise and keen eye, will simply not accept anything that is not up to standard. That said, although incredibly exacting he is also very kindly and relaxed and goes out of his way to try to help one not overly feel the pressure of everything we do being under such close scrutiny.

As for any speed of passing DSC2, although I have allegedly passed the stalk, I have yet to have my assessors telephone grilling (we didn't cover detailed larder procedure and so I am aware that will receive a particular grilling during interview) and understand my assessor is apparently one of BASC's most senior assessors and extremely thorough. However, after sorting the logistics of Ian sending the cull record to him immediately after the stalk, I've heard nothing more in over two months, despite several follow up emails.
Hi Tim, Two months with no contact or response from your DSC2 assessor is far too long in anyone's book. All assessors are different, but I got my assessor's grilling the same day after the AW and I uploaded our accounts of the stalk.

Sorry if this sounds like I'm teaching you to suck eggs - if you've still not heard anything and you haven't already I'd encourage you to contact BASC's training admin team (01244 573018 ask for training & education dept, or email dacadmin@basc.org). Explain the situation and they should be able to check your e-portfolio that both you and your AW have uploaded your accounts of the stalk/individual cull record. They can contact your assessor too, and you can further escalate through official channels using the BASC complaints process if things haven't worked themselves out.

You've paid your money and done your bit so far - they should really be playing their part too.
