dual purpose gsp

Her indoors will only allow me one more dog as I already have a kennel full of springers. My next dog is due to be a gsp for pointing grouse/partridge. Is it practical to also train for locating injured deer. Also once obedience/basics sorted is the training for deer easy enough.

I can see no reason why you can't train for tracking at the same time as you get your other training in place.
Training your dog to track is as easy as training it to retrieve. Tracking training is no black art.
