Dummy launcher question please.

Mate thinking of getting a launcher, its like an espresso machine cup thing with handle directly underneath. Pull/spring loaded firing pin which looks like it hits a rim fire type/size cartridge once the handle is unlocked & hinged back.
Where to get the cartridges & is it to be listed on a cert fac etc?

I bought one many years ago to train my cocker spaniel. The first time I fired it I stood there totally Gob smacked at the recoil and how the dummy disappeared into the great beyond. The spaniel had a look of WTF was that on his face. Problem I found was to much use got the dog searching for the dummy to far out.

Word of warning. You hold it the opposite way to what you would naturally pick it up.
The dummy should be on your little finger side and you fire it with your elbow bent.

Agree. The recoil is severe.
My mate split his thumb.
You must bend your elbow to give with the recoil.

Many people don’t know to hold it “backwards” or to bend their arm.
I found out the hard way too. It was only when I bought the cleaning kit and read the enclosed instructions I realised why the recoil was so harsh.

or u can make/bodge a shoulder mount out of plastic sink waste pipe and some insulation.

In my opinion unless ur training dogs to a really high standard or have a very specific reason, completely unecesarry for most trainers/dogs.

I used to have some Cash captive bolt pistol cartridges for mine, we lost a lot of dummies…..but if you sent one of our dogs BACK it went BACK.
The launcher is a handy tool, it doesn’t look like a gun so you tend to avoid the hairy eyeball and visits from the police using one in public.

After my pal broke his wrist helping me I bought a "stock" for my Turner Richards launcher, made a big difference plus it gives the impression of using a shot gun to the dog.

Its the red ones best to avoid or dont push the dummy all the way down this stops the dummy from vanishing

As it happens I acquired a folding stock for a 1022 that has been butchered.
I was having a clear out the other weekend. Found the stock, then found it will fit round the Handle on my dummy launcher.

Tip... store the launcher with well greased spigot (this also reduces the range should you want to) and the dummy fitted or rust will form on the spigot and rubber ring seal may dry out knackering the launcher.
