I bought a 2013 duster 4x4 in the summer for 5k. It's cheap and cheerful but comfy and nice to drive. It's no off-roader but has decent ground clearance and can handle rough roads and fields no problem. It gets 40-45mpg from the 1.5dci engine. First gear is very low which can be annoying in town, and it's not fast but gets up to 70-75mph without hassle. Mine has some rust but nothing to worry about for MOT's yet I don't think.
I think it's a fantastic budget country car.
I concur with a lot of this (2017 4x4 1.2 petrol injection etc). Great motor. I don’t ever use first gear on the road, but it has 6 total so works ok.I bought a 2013 duster 4x4 in the summer for 5k. Drop the seats flat and it'll fit a dog box for 2 clockers, plus a carcase tray, plus rifle in slip, sticks and all the paraphernalia you would ever need. I've bought a full length load bed liner for mine. On BFG tyres it's averaging 41 mpg with a mixture of on/off road . It's more comfortable than my wife's Q5 and doesn't give me a numb bum on trips from Wiltshire to Northumberland. I'm on my third with no problems at all - apart from the stupid permanent running lights that can't be switched off. Some good info.
In short it’s mainly for going to and from shooting activities and dogs. Some a few miles away some 160 mile round trips. Won’t be doing any serious off roaring just crappy tracks and paths.

I recall reading in Which that the Duster scored badly ? V poor safety rating. I will see if i can find the review.

Yes, it's the 1500 diesel. I tried the petrol 4wd and changing gear all the time was a PITA. People say it's not a proper 4wd but Ive never had a problem following Land Rovers and Pick ups over greasy clay and chalk on the estates where I use it. 0-60 in 9 seconds is fast enough on our roads and it is nippy around town. The reason used 4wd are hard to find is that owners hang onto them, which says a lot. Dacia has a problem though, why is the 4wd only available at the top spec? They do a commercial version though which I'm interested in.That’s the ticket. Is it the 1.5 diesel? I’m amazed how well they seemingly hold their value secondhand for such a cheap car. The truck has been great but by Christ it’s cost an arm and leg to run when just potting to and from local places. Claims it does 30mpg on the clock but zero chance it’s doing that given the amount of diesel we go through.

I use mine on rutted and rough tracks, mostly in 3rd gear, 2 or 3 days weekly. Never had any observations at MoT. But as said above parts do wear.I have heard suspension wear is an issue if you use it in the rough a lot
