EAW scope mount company have gone bankrupt

The renowned manufacturer of mountings for riflescopes, Ernst Apel GmbH (EAW), has filed for bankruptcy, as a company spokesman confirmed to JAWINA. The cause of the slump in sales was described by difficulties in the foreign markets and high personnel costs at the production and administrative location in the Bavarian town of Gebrunn: "If someone buys a can for 600 euros, he does not build a high-quality assembly on them," said the company spokesman. However, the German market is stable and it is hoped to emerge strengthened from the preliminary insolvency proceedings. "The stock shelves are full we can deliver," said the company. As a first step in the restructuring, a drastic reduction in staff was initiated. red.

So that's probably planned ..... and it goes on ..

In other words, they are paying their workers more than someone gets paid in China for similar skills.
 
Very sorry for any staff affected by the bankruptcy but I never really saw the appeal of Apel mounts, seen a lot of scopes cosmetically damaged by them. Not such a problem when we had steel tubes and hard glossy finishes but anodized alluminium doesn't do so well.

Set up for a massive downsizing as they have gone off the rails.
 
I’m not surprised tbh. Look at Rusan, they are making identical and same quality mounts for a third of the price.

eaw also have not been reinventing themselves and have carried far too extensive a portfolio imho.

These days the big Blaser/Mauser/sauer are making their own mounts as well as optiloc taking almost all sako and tikka business

mix that with the demise of clawmounts and Mauser based builds and there you have it

sad, but not surprising

sad news, brilliant products that that have helped me bag much game . I’m sure they won’t disappear though, it sounds like they just need to restructure their business and install some more up to date automated machines to help them complete with lower production costs.

There is a copy company in Hungary offering the same on egun at much lower costs, if they match the quality etc???
EAW had huge stocks so that gunsmiths who ordered for the millions of combinations that are possible were quickly served.
Maybe keeping/updating the CAD files and only making the mounts to order will be the way forward with a much reduced workforce.
