Element Nexus riflescope - accidental damage, engaging Element's support team...

The other day I had a gut-wrenching mishap: I dropped my rifle 40cm onto a carpeted floor.

The rifle was orientated horizontal to the floor, magazine facing the ceiling when it slipped from my grip.

The Element Nexus riflescope turret took the brunt of the impact IMG_6227.webp IMG_6224.webp and can no longer rotate freely. It jams after 3/4 turn.

Really gutted. This was brand new in October 2020. Zero'd but has never seen action in the field.

On the upside, Element have responded promptly to my opening email to them and have requested images.

I will update as this consumer mishap saga unfolds.

Thanks for posting. Hopefully Element understand that anything other than rock solid support at this stage risks unravelling what has so far been a truly impressive marketing achievement and will look after you.

Agreed. In fact, the reason I bought this scope over any other with similar spec [e.g. Vortex Razor] was on the back of Matt Dubber's emphatic endorsement of their Platinum Lifetime warranty.

I think Element have a real chance of garnering a Swarovski-esque reputation for customer support if they deliver on that promise. [Lifetime warranty statement is 6 minutes and 27 secs into the video below.Linked above]

But watch the whole thing. The scope is every bit as good as Matt enthuses.

Henric in customer service for Element asked that I take a photo of the elevation spindle with the external cap removed. I have now sent that.

The image, copied below, clearly shows that the brass spindle is no longer perpendicular to the scope body. Fewer words in coarser language could sum its state more succinctly.

I do hope there is no more email to-and-fro. I need this to be looked at by the folk who built it.

Element have arranged for UPS to collect tomorrow. That is prompt customer service!

I look forward to updating as things progress. So far, these guys are living up to their claim for excellent customer support and product warranty.

I hope the turret problem is the only damage as it would be a miracle for the floor to hit there before contacting the objective or ocular housing. The trouble with big scopes is they leave a lot hanging out the front end to be wrenched or bent in mishaps.

Does the warranty spefically cover accidental damage?
From their response so far it looks like they're going to take good care of you

Had a similar thing happen to a Vortex. When I opened a gunsafe a rifle fell out and landed turret down onto a concrete floor. The spindle was well and truly out of whack. Reported it to the Vortex importer and a new replacement was in the mail two days later.

Sounds like this mob will respond in a similar fashion. Good news indeed.

Cheers

Its a pity Meopta dont look after their customers so well.Rifle dropped onto a turret, turret cap is pushed over the threads so when i unscrewed the turret cap the whole turret screws out of the tube.No response to emails from meopta and Ruag arnt interested , apparantly they wont send it back due to brexit customs issues.

Tend to agree. I reckon more has gone south than can be seen by eye.

At the base of the brass spindle is a precision gear to deliver precise elevation increments. I bet that also has a ding which means that even if the spindle were replaced, the collimator test would show non-linear MOA-to-rotation values.

Per the latest email exchange, it looks like Element are going to take the same route as Vortex did with antsa's mishap in #12.

If I do receive a replacement unit, I will definitely update this forum!

Having studied the video and notwithstanding I’d wish to view something through the glass in question before pronouncing on this key consideration, I have to say the only thing that appealed to me was the unit’s ability to parallax down to 10 yards.

I have two Swaro' scopes, one Zeiss, a couple of Hawkes. I have owned a Leupold. To my eyes, my Z6 is king of that heap.

But I am pretty impressed with the Element's image too.

The Element Nexus was bought specifically to be mated to my heavy 6.5PRC and thus the zoom range [5-20x] covers both hunting ranges and potential steel ringing at extended ranges. That chambering is very capable of both roles with suitable glass.

The package also has reticle illumination [fair: a bit of flare/illumination spill] and handles the FFP sight image really well: unobtrusive but clearly usable at the lowest magnification, still svelte at max mag'.

In particular, the center of the reticle is as unfussy as my Z6 and that works for me.

Though I don't obsess about glass resolution in scopes, since they are sights, not binoculars or spotting scopes, I think the Swarovski Z6 probably has the best erector-tube set-up with its four helical springs at the back. I would respect Swaro even more if they went back to the old reticle-movement Habicht, which had the erector set fixed solid, not rocking around whenever a big rifle is touched off.

Warranty & EU is not your cost or concern to consider, your contractvis with who took payment & is for them to deal with or small claims court

So we have 2 scopes that have both suffered damage at the hands of the owners and with expectation the Manufacturer should either repair or replace. There has been no mention of the respective Warranties and if such are of the variety that cover accidental damage. Always a good starting point rather than hoping for a Swarovski Customer Service approach!

My point being if you have an accident in a new vehicle is it customary to return it to the Dealership and with a request for it to be repaired under the Warranty?
