Elk in Scotland again?

I sense a lot of negativity

Did you not read the bit where it says they are fenced in and simply could not escape

So it's clearly a completely reversible decision and we could easily just round them all up if we decided differently

😂
That had better be a really good fence lol .

Muntjac escaped not so long ago in the history of deer in the UK and very few places they have not reached so your fence theory is up a creek lol
Granted they are large but I have seen 20 reds/fallow melt away in the swapping of spotter to scope :old:

Think we should reintroduce Atlantic salmon to Scottish rivers first.
That is, for me, a much wiser idea. In the '800 it was a sort of fashion to import several foreign species, from Father David Deer to Wapiti or whitetail in U.K. and continental.
Europe. It seems that the lesson taught by Australian rabbits and myxomatosis has gone forgotten.

We still have some.
It is a tongue-in-cheek comment to make the point we should look after what we have a bit better before we start again with species.

Puts me in Mind of the fence made at inordinate expense c/o SNH’s designation of a Ross shire corrie (to keep the deer away from dwarf montane vegetation); the fence was duly erected, and the great and the good were bussed in to view the fruits of their decision in the summer.
The ensuing winter saw the fence destroyed by snowfall.
It was certainly an ex-closure after that.

Always wondered how these fenced reintroduction areas fit with right to roam.
