EU Consultation on standardising firearms legislation

give us our pistols and self loaders back and treat us as law abiding Citizens not Criminals that would be a start
start it up i'll sign it .

Gotta do it, no point bleating the old "won't make any difference" excuse. Shooting sports are much stronger in most EU states so this may prove very worthwhile.

My thoughts Paul, I live in Switzerland and so am lucky enough to be able to own pistols and self loaders. I would love to see those back in the UK. Sign up mate, make your voice heard!

+ 1 to that. We have to play these people at there own game. Standardisation of rules might give you a pistol back, sulking in the corner won't.

David.

The best answer, get us out of of the EU, NOW!

Another seduced by the nonsense of Mr Farage?

In 1988 when self-loading rifles and etc. were banned, by Mrs Thatcher, we got 50% or £ 150 flat rate compensation for weapons prohibited AND NOTHING ELSE.

in 1996 we got a widespread compensation pakage that whilst flawed was a lot better than that of 1988. Why? Beacuse by then EEC legislation required that if a Government prohibited any object it had to pay compensation for it.

So were we "out of the EU" if there were a subsequent firearms ban you can bet that, as in 1996, we would get little or no compensation.

As for EU Gun Law the usual resolution is that there be a minimum EU wide standard WITH MEMBER STATES FREE TO IMPOSE THIE OWN HARSHER DOMESTIC LEGISLATION MORE RESTRICTIVE THAN THE MINIMUM STANDARD.

So I think that, yet again, as with walking stick shot guns and "firearms disguised as other objects" we will get EU Law if it acts to the detriment of our selves and where EU Law is more relaxed we will, Great Britain, fall back on the Government's right (as noted) to impose its own harsher domestic legislation.

So a valuable point to make is that if EU wide legislation is to be introduced then member states should NO LONGER be allowed to impose domestic legislation that imposes controls stricter than that EU wide legislation.

A big +1 on that

I've filled in the questionnaire. To be fair to the Commission, this is clearly primarily about the arms trade for military/criminal/violent purposes. It doesn't mean that we shouldn't be careful not to be the subject of collateral legal damage, but sporting use of firearms is clearly not the point of this consultation. Generally, I think that there's not much point in having legislation against arms trafficking within a free trade zone unless all signatory members follow the same rules. And I'm not a big fan of firearms for shooting people with. In fact, it bugs me that most sporting firearm manufacturers also make guns for the military. But I suppose that they have to make a living and that I'm a great big hippie.

don't know how much you got feller ! i lost my company in it as it happens but the fsc comp payed for a new boat, car and 4 years hols to usa for 4 of us 16days at a time and lots of hunting trips around the world and got rid of of lots of crap i could not give away let alone sell . in 1988 i got £160 for an l1a1 fn with a s.u.i.t scope i still have the dust cover and the ak47 dust cover so did't even pay for a good ****up

over the water as in N.irland thay still have all the toys we used to have and i dont think thay would place a compleat EU ban as it would have to be as 1995/6 the cost of the last one has a "D" Notice as to the cost just think if it was on the EU scale ! the way it is at the moment could do alot of ££damage to the coffers
may make them give our rifles and pistols back one has to remember guns don't kill
